been visited again with a line rain.

Mr. Walter W. Preston. who has so
efficiently filled a position as book-
keeper in the First National bank of
Lockhart for more than two years,
has resigned that position to accept
a similar one in the Beaumont Na-
tional bank. His many friends re-
gretted his departure for his new
home on Saturday. He carries with
him the best wishes for success of a
host of friends, and his new employ-
ers are to be congratulated upon get-
ting the services of so exemplary a
young man.
Mr. Thomas Jones of Marlin and
Miss Lucy Mebane of this place were
married by Rev. J. M. Purcell at the
Episcopal church Wednesday morn-
ing the 12st, Inst., and left immedi-
ately for their home at Marlin. Miss
Mebane was raised here and for her
sterling worth is greatly admired by
a host of friends, whose good wishes
she carries with her to her new life.

Marcos spent this week here at his
mother’s.

have returned from a visit to Aus-

Deputy Sheriff Fox, who left Satur-
day night for Colorado county, will
return to Austin today and have in
custody J. Kahn. Indicted here on a
charge of thett by bailee.
It will be remembered that the local
authorities and the New' Braunfels
authorities had a chase for Kahn
several months ago, the New Braun-
fels officers got Kahn. He was tried
and convicted and given a term of
two years.
He will be brought here to be tried
for the Travis county oftense, after
which he will be returned to Colorado
ounty to merve out his New Braun-
fels sentence in a convict camp.

Mr. Thos, Lundrin and wife of
Hon. 8. R. Boyd. representative In
the legislature from Hill county, spent
Saturday in Austin, Mr. Boyd is an
ardent supporter of Hon. Pat Nett of
Waco for speaker of the next house,
and stated that he has kept a close
watch on the speakership contest be-
tween Messrs. Neff and Schluter.
Mr. Boyd says that Mr. Neff has
eighty-three pledged supporters. In
talking of the race Mr. Boyd made the
following statement:
"Recently there have been numer-
ous and contlicting reporta as to the
support of the caindidates for speaker.
Mr. Schluter, in an interview, stated
that he not only had pledged to his
support a majority of the next house,
but that he had a majority of the
members of the last seaion who would
be returned, and all the members of
the Twenty-sixth legislature who
would occupy seats in the next house.
In connection with that I desire to say
that, not counting the two candidates
for speaker, there will be forty-live
members of the last session who will
be in the next house and thirty of
