COLLEGE SCENE
• The Baytown students recently were initiated into
The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest
and most selective collegiate honor society for all aca-
demic disciplines: Laura Hernandez at University of
Houston-Clear Lake, Jasmine Thompson at University
of Houston-Clear Lake, and Yulia Trujillo-Rodriguez at
University of Houston-Clear Lake.
• More than 800 students earned degrees and/or certif-
icates from Temple College this year. Baytown students
receiving degrees and/or certificates are as follows: Kris-
ten Boyd and Ulises Quiroga.
• Eleanor VanCleave of Beach City qualified for the
Spring 2021 Dean’s List at Belmont University.
• After more than a year with only online, virtual com-
mencement ceremonies, spring 2021 graduates at Texas
A&M University-Kingsville were able to walk the stage
in person outdoors at Javelina Stadium. Among the grad-
uates was Helue Patino of Baytown, who earned a Bach-
elor of Science in Civil Engineering.
