Lee College President Dr.
Lynda Villanueva said she
is “cautiously optimistic”
about enrollment numbers
for summer as the college
heads into the fall.
The college’s enrollment
numbers are not certified
and could still move either
up or down, according to
Amanda Smoke, college
spokeswoman.
For Summer 2021, col-
lege enrollment is at a little

offered during this time, so
there was a significant in-
crease in enrollment during
that time. In Summer 2019,
college enrollment was a
little under 3,300 students.
"Where we are right now
is where we kind of were
when I reported this last
month, which is our head-
count is a little bit down,”
Villanueva said. “But that is
Ok. We have more students
who are taking full loads of
classes, and that is bringing
up our contact hours.”
Villanueva said the col-
lege’s billing units, or se-
mester credit hours, are
actually up slightly to .4%
right now.
“We’ll continue to moni-
tor that as we head into the
rest of the summer,” Villan-
ueva said. “In terms as to
where we are for the fall se-
mester, we are up 34% for
the fall semester. But there
is a caveat. It is compared
to last year for fall, but that
was during a pandemic. But
we are up 5% higher as to
where we were compared
to 2019, which is the best
comparison. If we contin-
ue to project where we are,
using where we are right
now, we expect to poten-
tially have a fall enrollment
that maybe is going to be
the highest in three years.
But we are cautiously opti-
mistic. It is still early, and
we’ll wait to see where we
are at.”
Smoke noted that fall en-
rollment numbers are not
certified, and the college is
still enrolling students.
She added the 34% fig-
ure is accurate and that
the numbers are a sign that
enrollment patterns are re-
turning to normal.
