Weighing In With Joe P.
Ross: Family, Farming; A
Distinctive Life
Joe Ross has much to tell of his life experiences; good memories,
great stories mingled with some of life’s challenges and loss. The Ross
name is well-known in these parts for a multitude of reasons.
First of all. there is the iconic Ross Farm located due west and slight-
ly south of the Grandview community that is still a very active opera-
tion today.
Joe was asked to tell about the history of Ross Farm. He said “John
Wesley and Nancy Pills Ross purchased from J.P. and Dollie
Covington. in December. 1896. land located about two miles north of
Covington Texas in Hill County. J.W. Ross had other land holdings but
at the time of his death in 1933 his estate had been reduced to the
acreage at the Ross farm due to economic hard time of the Great
Depression and medical cost associated with his wife's illness.”
