is Given Honor
Lamar Hall, one of the most
attractive college dormitories
for boys in the state, was dedi-
cated in special ceremonies in
the South Plains College Audi-
torium Saturday, Sept. 11.
The beautiful new T-shaped
building is modern in every
detail. The architecture and
construction of the new facility
corresponds with other build-
ings on the modern campus.
Light and dark bricks were
used to match other campus
structures.
A plaque honoring the late
Lamar G. West is located on
the wall in the entrance foyer
of the main lobby.
Forty-four rooms for stu-
dents and two rooms for super-
visors are provided in the new
structure. Accommodations for
88 boys are available in Lamar
Hall.
Rooms feature built-in furni-
ture such as desks and long-
boy beds, bookshelves, a lava-
tory, ample closet space, study
desks and lamps, and comfort-
able chairs.
A large, ultra-modern bath-
room is located between each
two rooms. Convenience and
comfort are featured in the
modem styling of the rooms.
The new dorm'tory was part
of a recent $310,000 project
for improvements at the
college. Money for the project
was from e federal loan and
revenue from the dorm roms
will repay the loan.
Only five buildings were com-
plete when the college opened
in 1958. Today the college has
fourteen attractive and well-
planned buildings, making South
Plains one of the best colleges
of its size in the state. The
