FOREWORD
The continued existence of our free way of life depends upon this
generation of American youth. A great responsibility therefore rests upon
present-day American education. We must prepare our sons and daugh-
ters for the work which lies ahead; for work it is. We must offer no easy
way, no primrose path, no idle theories. Our eyes must be on the
heavens, but our feet must be on the ground; and our hands and hearts
must be consecrated to the task of rebuilding our civilization.
American education, like all other phases of American life, must
devote itself in the days ahead to practicality, sincerity, honesty, and
righteousness. There is no place today, if indeed ever there was, for
namby-pamby education. Every objective must be motivated from ab-
solute sincerity of purpose. Every course must be permeated with com-
plete intellectual honesty and respect for truth. Every skill must be taught
so thoroughly and efficiently that the sin of wastefulness does not exist
either during or following the training period. Righteousness must be so
much a part of every thought and action as to develop character traits
in our lives which are as high and steadfast and eternal as the stars.
The call of today, both to and from American youth, is to this kind of
education. To this kind of education Lamar College is sincerely dedicated.
