Rodeo Parade
Float Entries
Slow This Year
No local businesses or clubs
had registered with the
Chamber of Commerce office
Tuesday for floats in the
annual Rodeo parade, which
will take place in Nocona on
July 17, but several out of
town entries have been
received.
A Color Guard from the
Armed Forces Recruiters will
lead the parade, according to
Marine Recruiter Gunnery
Sgt. Fred Larson, who stopped
by the Chamber office this
week to acknowledge receipt
of their invitation to partici-
pate in the parade. This Color
Guard will be composed of all
services, and will be handled
by the various recruiters from
the area. Sheppard Air Force
Base has notified the Chamber
that the Drum and Bugle
Corps and Drill Team from
their base will participate in
the parade, and Ft. Sill has
written saying it would try to
come up with something for
us. Maskat Temple of Wichita
Falls will have its “Cadillac
Caravan” in the parade also.
Only three floats are
registered locally, including
Kappa Pi Chapter of ESA the
Nocona Chamber of Com-
merce and Casa Cona Club.

It's a little more complicated
than that, but not much.
Kappa Pi Chapter of Epsilon I
Sigma Alpha is sponsoring a
“Paint A Plug” contest in
conjunction with the Bicenten-
nial celebration.
The organization received
permission from the city to
paint Nocona's fire plugs in
the Bicentennial color theme
of red, white and blue.
Instead, the organization
decided to open the decorating
to any individual or group. The
plugs may be painted to look
like figures, possibly people
from history, or a pioneer lady,
or an English soldier.
Entries will be judged on the
basis of originality, neatness,
and theme consideration. Only
those individuals or groups
who are officially registered
will be eligible for prizes,
which will include trophies for
first, second and third places.
Individuals or groups may
pick any fire plug in town (on a
first come, first pick basis) by
simply registering with the
Chamber of Commerce (an
entry blank can be found
elsewhere in the paper). J
