THE WESTERN ADVOCATE.
rp HE undersigned proposes to publish during the ehsuing
JL year, in the City of Austin, a Newspaper, to be styled •1 he
Western Advocate."
As its name purporis, the entire object of te paper will be
j tosuppor the Western portion of Texas, and susiain the char:
’ acter and interests ol its inhabitants against the violen and •
lawless attempts which have been made, and are Mill making,
. to ruin the one and prostrate the other. In doing th is, it wil
i animadvert freely .though justly, upon the course heretofoie
pursued by Ute Executive; and, shouid he continue that tourse,
every effort will be made to cenvey cortect informaliou in re-
gard" to his conduet into every section of the Republic, so that
the Representatives of the people in meeting in Congress at its
next session, may tome prepared to apply the only legit i mute
remedy for Executie surpation and ayranniral abuse of
power.
In the Editorial department of the paper, the undersigned
will be aided by Gentlemen eeply devoted to the Western in-
terests, who have made iustrue policy their whole study for
months । ast, and every xertion will be used, both by them and
himself, to present that policy in its proper light to the world.
In undesiaking this, enterprise the undersigned has no wish
oi expectation oi making it subservient to his individual gain.
He, and those who will labor with him, are entirely willing to
give their time and exertions, without compensation, tor the ac-
complishment of the great object they have in view; andshuuld
they succeed, by the dissemination of correct information abroad,
in restoring the Western interests heretofore greatly impaired
by usurpation and violence, they wllfeel amply rewarded for
their trouble. Todo this, however some expenses will be in.
curred, which the undersigned is doable iubear, and be must
depend upon the assistance of his friends, and those who think
and feel with him on this occasion to meet those expenses.
The paper wil be of medium size,land issued voce in two
weeks, at the moderateprice of two dollars per annum ; and as
the undersigned is aware of the great scarcity of money, and has
no other object in making a charge than to cover(he expenses
which will unavoidably attend the enterprize, he is williog to
receive merchantable produce at its market value, provided the
America.

rAHE Fall Term of this Institution will commence on Mon-
X day, 16h,inst.
Pupils from a distanca can be accommodated in the building
occupied by the Presidert of the Institution, who ia conjunc-
tion with the other Teachers, will at all timtes exercise a pa-
rental guardianship over those entrusied to their care. In or-
der to carry this plan fully inio execution a large boarding
house is now being fitted up, a few yars distant frorp th pres-
ent building of the University. The p apils will have atcess to
a choice library and reading room, in the most peasant and
"healthy part of the city.
In proof of the excellency of (he government and instruciion
of the institution, the Trnstees would inform the public tha
about one year ago, period of its commencement) there
were but five pypils, and during the last term there wererne-
hundred. In order to bring its benefits within the reach of all
