To answer complaints
Wood awaits legal
brief before acting
Cleveland ISD Superintendent Bobby Wood’s office said Monday that
he had not yet received the legal briefing he was waiting on concerning a
series of complaints he was to answer at the school board's request
The list of charges was to have been presented to Wood, and he was
given 30 days by the board of trustees to answer the charges to them. That
was 30 days after he had received the charges in writing from Tom Garner, a
Port Lavaca attorney hired by concerned citizens inthe Cleveland district
The trustee order came at a December meeting, at which Garner, of
the law firm of Rhodes, Garner and Roberts, had met with the superinten-
dent and board in executive session.
The list of charges, as such, did not come, but Attorney Garnering let
ter dated Dec. 19 wrote Supt. Wood, and requested more information, so that
“specifications of the written complaints concerning your (Wood’s) conduct
as Superintendent of the Cleveland Independent School District,” could be
completed.
The requests asked for various records during the “past five (5)
years”, meaning specifically beginning in the school year 1976 inclusive
through the school year beginning September 1980
The request contained a broad area of information wanted Itwas when
this letter was received that Supt. Wood asked legal opin ion, on the matter of
answering the letter.
Superintendent Wood told the Advocate last week he was waiting on ad-
vice from legal counsel before making any move on the request from At-
torney Garner.
