HoustonWHAT THE INSTITUTE IS:
-The oldest and largest American agency for the exchange of
persons, founded in 1919 by noted educators and statesmen.
-An organization with 24,000 alumni-17,000 foreign citizens
who have studied, taught, or participated in educational visits
in the United Stites and 7,000 Americans who have studied,
taught or made similar visits abroad.
-A private non-profit corporation which must depend upon
foundations, corporations and individuals to support its work.
WHAT THE INSTITUTE DOES:
-Places 2800 students from 81 countries in U. S. educational
institutions on government and private scholarships, and
assists them throughout their stay in this country.
-Helps 1100 U. S. students study abroad on Fulbright and
other scholarships.
-Exchanges leaders, technicians and specialists.
-Serves as a clearing house of information on all phases of
international education.
WHAT THE INSTITUTE DOES IN THE SOUTHWEST:
-Places and selects international students for 20 educational
institutions in Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas.
-Receives and programs prominent international leaders visiting
the U. S. under the auspices of our government.
-Counsels Southwest students wishing to study abroad on
scholarships provided by private programs or U. S. Government
grants (Fulbright).
-Orients international students to American culture through
hospitality programs, forums and similar activities.
-Assists other organizations in the field of exchange.
-Consults with all educational institutions requesting assistance
on problems relating to international exchange
-Supervises international students studying in area under Institute
auspices.
-Organizes community participation for university and college
