The Groom area received its first
frost of the fall season early
Thursday morning of last week.
With the frost the temperature's
droped to the freezing mark and a
light skim of ice was noted, in sev-
eral places. The frost was not
heavy enough to kill all growing
vegetation but it put a crimp in
most green-leafed plants.
We have had a week of almost
fair weather. A light shower Tues-
day morning left only a trace in
rain gauges in Groom but in the
Grandview and Jericho areas a
heavy rain measuring an inch or
more was reported.

Now that we are coming to the
close of the year, and income
taxes will soon be due, it is time
to be thinking of how much we
may give to non-profit programs
such as our Senior Citizens Cen-
ter here in our own county.
As much as 20 per cent may be
deducted if these gifts are itemized
and your checks or receipts are
proof of the gift. We have had a
number of inquiries as to when the
building will be started on the land
given by Mr. and Mrs. J .N. Gar-
retson.
This will be determined by the
amount of money received this
year and early in 1961. It is hoped
to start building preparations early
next spring.
Your checks may be sent to Mr.
Ralph Randel, Panhandle; Mr. T.
G. Fields, Groom; Mr. and Mrs.
Vern Crumpacker, White Deer; or
to any bank in the county.
Thanks to those who have al-
ready made gifts to this worthy
cause, especially for the gifts from
