A number of people interested inror-
ganizing a United Charities for Orange,
met in the rooms of the Chamber of
Commerce on yesterday and perfected
an organization and adopted a constitu-
tion und by laws. A definite policy was
determined upon and work will begin
at once. Dr. R. V. Brokaw was elected
president, S. M. White, vice president,
and J. E. Harrisou, secretary treasurer.
The constitution and by-laws follows:
Article 1 (Name).
The name of this organisation shall
be “The United Chartities of Orange,
Texas.”
Article 11 (Objeet)
‘The object of this organization shall
be to administer npeessary rate to the
indigent of the city and county of Or-
ange, by intellgeut, co-operative effort.
Article HI (Membership)
Membership shall include all persons
who by donations of funds or services
manifest an active interest in the af-
fairs of this organization.
Appointments to membership shall be
made by a majority vote of the execu-
tive committee.
Article IV (Officers)
Officers shall include, president, vice
president, recording secretary and treas-

Riehurdson, who was arrested here Kat

University of Texas was a very beau-
tiful ami festive, affair. The tables Tor

Holland Hotel were arranged in the
form ef the letter T, for the Texas-
University. The room was tustefully
decorated with palms and white and
yellow flowers. The table was especial-
ly pretty with six bouquets of orange
and white flowers, as these colors are
the Texas University colors. Thirty-
five covers were laid, each having be-
aide it a crystal white candle stick and
an orange candle. Orange colred bon-
hon dishes were also at each plate and
each guret-had a tiny orange ami
white program of the toasts and ne-
• nu.
At each banquet of the ex-students
two prospective University students
are invited from the High School.
Those givkn the honor this year were
Oliphant Watson and Miss Inez Fore-
man.
The assembled guests sang the Tex-
as song and gave the Texas yell, just
as in their’college days. W. L. Vining
was the toastmaster for the evening
and introduced each student on the
toast list with some witty and clever
saying.

many high positions which ex-students

ing in the cabinet of the United States,

E. L.. Bruce paid a very high trib-
ute to the American heroes in his
toast entitled "The Boys in the Ser
vice." Many of the Orange ex-students
are in the service and there were three
thousand exstudents of the University
of Texas who were in the service frot
all over the country.
Walter English who was known as
“Red" at the University and who was
captain of the baseball team, gave a
very elever impromptu toast. He has
just came to Orange ami in his brief
address he said that he did not know
if he could d anything for Orange
but that Orange could certainly do «
lot for himn.
MW Gertride Goldsmith then gave
“Varsity P’rospe ets," telling of th*
great advantages which flic graduat-
ing high school st udent s could derive
from a university course.
Oliphant Watson of the High school,
gave a splendid toast on the subject

ing of his aims and ambitions in the
eduentional line.
