Here are firm facts about
keeping suede and leather
soft and lovely.
• Brush suede frequently
with a soft brush.
• Wipe smooth leather
with a damp cloth.
• If the garment gets wet,
let it air dry away from heat.
• Store leather garments
in a cool, ventilated area. It’s
subject to drying out if ex-
posed to dry heat and to mil-
dew if exposed to a hot, humid
environment.
• Wear a scarf to protect
the collar area from body oils.
• If staining occurs, take

Twenty-Five Years of Life
A devastating epidemic
that paralyzed or killed thou-
sands of Americans—mostly
children—was itself van-
quished a quarter of a century
ago. Here’s a look at the in-
spiring past and vital present
of the oral polio vaccine.

An Algonkian Indian village, near what is now Boston
got the name "Mes-atsu-s-et, large hill place," from the
fact that it was located in the regions of the Great Blue
Hill. This later became the name of the American colony
Massachusetts.

• Have all matching pieces
cleaned at the same time.
• Give your cleaner any
care information that came
with the garment.
• Point out any stains.
Old, set stains cannot always
be removed safely.
• Don’t be surprised if
your cleaner asks you to sign
a consent form before cleaning.
This may occur if there’s some
question about serviceability.

NEGATIVE INPUT.
We live in a society that is sometimes ungrateful for
the things that are lovely and nobel. It seems that no one
is allowed a pedestal. Indeed, society now tends to pull
down and be critical of everything. Encouragement is
not the mark of our day.
Psycholigists conducted a survey of businessmen.
They were instructed to record the input they received
from people. If a complaint was received they recorded
a negative mark. If a praise or dommendation was given,
they tallied a good mark. As a result, the study revealed
that 67% of the input they received was negative!
In a negative world, Christians are called upon to
be encouraging and comforting. This does not mean we
are to compromise the Biblical teachings, but we are to
lovingly share Christ with others. "So then let us pursue
the things which make for peace and the building up of
one another.” (Romans 14:19)

THEN: In 1916, the first
major polio epidemic broke
out in America, claiming
6,000 lives and paralyzing
27,000 others. In 1952, the
year of the most severe epi-
demic, polio claimed almost
58,000 victims. In response,
the U.S. mounted a scientific
quest of unparalleled propor-
tions to find a vaccine. In 1955
Dr. Jonas Salk developed the
first successful polio vaccine
and in 1961, Dr. Albert Sabin
isolated the three attenuated
strains of polio that were ulti-
mately combined into the oral
vaccine used today.
NOW: Today, we celebrate
the 25th anniversary of the
mass immunization against
polio. In 1962 the oral polio
vaccine, developed by Dr.
Sabin, was recommended for
primary immunization of our
nation’s children by the
U.S. Public Health Service.
Since then, over 500 million
doses of Lederle Laboratories’
ORIMUNE- live oral polio vac-
cine have been administered
to immunize against this de-
vastating disease which has
helped to eliminate polio in
this country.
