Pvt. John R. Saylor, who left Peo-
ria 58R parts control (process stores)
2/18/41 for military service, was sev-
erely wounded in action 9/10 or 11
in the South Pacific and is in base
hospital, letters from friends to his
parents, Mr. & Mrs. Irvin Saylor, re-
port. Jack was burned on both arms,
hands, chest and back by explosion
of an enemy bomb. A Red Cross
letter of 9/17 says he is improving and
his general health is good.
With an Infantry Hq. Co. he has
seen action at Munda, New Georgia
Island, has been on Ysabel and Rus-
sell islands, at Tagula, Guadalcanal,
New Caledonia and New Zealand.
When Jack last visited plant in July
'42, photo was taken outside 58R
flanked by Red Schultz, who has since
left for service, and Ray Williamson.

with a task force in Africa" in War
Dept. Gen. Order #55 of 9/9 issued by
Gen. George C. Marshall.
"When exigency of the situation on
the 4th of July required that a task
force take over the operation and
maintenance of lighters as a part of its
unloading mission, Lt. LeTourneau
promotion to captain followed], as
officer in charge of motor maintenance,
rose to his added duties with energy
and resourcefulness.
