WAITING ON WPB. Just as soon
as WPB gives its O.K. (we were a
bit ahead of the facts last week) re-
modeling of west side, third floor,
Central Warehouse building, is to
start to provide modern school facili-
ties for sales, service and factory train-
ing. Cartoonist John Colgan has ani-
mated Architect Bryant Hadley's floor
plan.

More suggestions on chain use have been
found by Don Renner, Peoria foreman of
clean, paint & mount #4. They are don'ts:
how not to repair, employ and mistreat
chains. Observing them will eliminate defi-
nite hazards, prolong chain life.

Illinois Drowns Levee
High water in the Illinois River
(Peoria Lake to Peorians), resulting
from heavy rains, has submerged the
levee, which is under construction to
protect plants. Rising by 4/18 to
448.1', compared to normal level of
440', stream then began to recede.
But along came more rains and up
she came again. By noon 4/25 she was
up to 451.1'. Up river the flood was
1.7' higher, but rains had stopped and
further up crest was past. Unless more
rains come Charles Merchant, indus-
trial construction and maintenance
manager, expects no more than 453'.
At 450' water passed elevation of
tracks at lower end of plant #1, but
sandbagging held river out, so as not
to interfere with shipping.
Photos show downstream end of
levee before and during high water.
Guard station has been removed, not
engulfed.,' ZE9 4C,e '
