Nazis Cut Coffee Use
To "Swim In Prosperity"
Germany - With coffee selling
at $1.20 a pound and only two
ounces available per customer, the
Propaganda Ministry is attributing
the coffee famine to "various in-
terruptions in German -Brazilian
trade, caused by pressure from the
U. S." But, says Time, German-
Brazilian trade is now uninterrupt-
ed, and the real causes of the short-
age are three: 1) determination of
the Nazis to import more war ma-
terials, less foodstuffs; 2) extensive
additional needs of coffee-addicted
Austria; 3) a Nazi practice of sell-
ing Brazilian coffee in Central Eur-
ope to bring in much-needed for-
eign currencies.
Germany -"If I had the Ural
Mountains, if we possessed Siberia,
if we had the Ukraine, then Nazi
Germany would be swimming in
prosperity." These words of Adolf
Hitler at Nurnberg in 1936 are
quoted by Time to point an article
showing that while prospects of
laying hands on the Urals or Si-
beria are still remote, the signs are
getting plainer and plainer that
Fuhrer Hitler, who snatched Aus-
tria and dismembered Czechoslo-
vakia in 1938, thinks the time is
approaching when the Ukraine -
which includes parts of Poland,
Rumania and Soviet Russia -is
ready for grabbing.
If for the sake of conquest and
to "swim in prosperity" in the dis-3
tant future Germans are being
forced to forego not only such lux-
uries as coffee, but ordinary food-
stuffs as well, should not true
Christians forego some of the comforts
and pleasures of this life -wholesome
and innocent as they may be - and "en-
dure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus
Christ," that they might better fight the
good fight of faith, taking more territory
for the Lord Jesus Christ, laying up
treasure in heaven and winning crowns
for faithful service to Him, at Whose
right hand are pleasures for evermore?
"Denying ungodliness and worldly
lusts, we should live soberly, righteously,
and godly, in this present world; look-
ing for that blessed hope, and the glori-
ous appearing of the great God and our
Saviour Jesus Christ." Titus 2:12, 13
"Let us lay aside every weight, and
the sin which doth so easily beset us, and
let us run with patience the race that is
set before us, looking unto Jesus the
Author and Finisher of our faith; Who
for the joy that was set before Him en-
dured the cross, despising the shame, and
is set down at the right hand of the throne
of God." Hebrews 12:1, 2
"Must I be carried to the skies
On flowery beds of ease,
While others fight to win the prize
And sail through bloody seas?
"In His name, the precious name
Of Him Who died for me,
Through grace I'll win the promised
crown
Whate'er my cross may be."
