soil chemist with the Texas
Agricultural Extension Serv-
ice. Each sample should not
represent more than 40 acres of
cropland. However, the nation-
al average last year was 144
acres for each sample while the
Texas average was a gigantic
630 acres. Soil samples should
be taken every two to four
years except under high annual
fertilization and intensive
production. Fall is a good time
for soil sampling since it allows

Mechanical and Chemical
Control of Brush.
Constructing Water Im-
poundment Reservoirs.
Constructing Terrace
Systems.
Constructing Diversion
Terraces.
Establishment of Sediment,
Chemical or Water Runoff
Control Measures.
Constructing Livestock
Water Wells and Installing
Pipelines.
Development of Springs and
Seeps.
Applications for cost-sharing on
the above approved practices
are now being taken. The
following must be taken into
consideration when a request
for cost-sharing is filed:
Work on the practice must
not have begun before the
request is filed.
Arrangements for a contract-
or must have already been
