The McKinney Examiner
accuses this editor of being
unfair and unjust in critcising
’ the governor’s pardon record.
Speaking of pardons, it asks:
“Do you know of any single
one of them that ought not
to have been given?” Oh, no.
No more than we know of
any single one of them that
ought to have been given.
The governor meets criti-
cism of her actions just as
the editor of the Examiner
meets it. She wants to know
if her critics "have made
careful investigation of each
case as she has." Of course
they haven't. It may not be
• sufficient to answer that we
have evidence—the evidence
of the governor herself—that
with all her “care” in exam-
ining each individual case she
has made a number of mis-
takes. This evidence comes in
the form of a revokal of par-
dons and paroles. Last week
we had two instances in
which men out on conditional
pardons committed felonies
after their release. The gov-
ernor must have “carefully in-
vestigated" their claims be-
fore she issued the pardons.
But she must also have been
’mistaken in reaching the con-
clusion that they deserved
pardon.
These are by no means the
only pardons or paroles she
has revoked We don't have
to "know a single one that
ought not to have been giv-
em" The governor furnishes
the answer. And if she thus
admits that she has been mis-
taken in some cases, isn't it

After all, congress didn’t do so
bad at the regular session. It re-
