Yes, here’s how to get extra attention from a man.
Just sit him down to his favorite dinner cooked
electrically. There’s lots of man-sized appeal in a
roast or stew with all the juicy goodness sealed in!
And you can bet he won’t skip those vegetables with
garden-fresh flavor. Best of all, you manage to stay
cool and attractive with clean,

or some important business mat-
ter to answer a call for jury ser-
vice? Many people are finding
themselves in that position nowa-
days.
Some may wonder just how that
jury summons always seems to ar-
rive at the most inopportune time.
There’s no secret involved. It is
largely a matter of chance.
Under Texas laws jury panels
for District Courts are selected by
one of two methods—the Jury
Wneel or the Jury Commission.
The jury wheel is a hollow metal
wheel or container, so erected
that it will freely revolve on its
axle.
In counties using a jury wheel,
a list of all qualified jurors is
prepared from the official tax
lists in August of each year. Tak-
ing part in the ceremony are the
County Tax Assessor, the District
Clerk, the County Sheriff, and
the County Clerk. Each prospec-
tive juror’s name is written on a
card of uniform size and placed
in the metal container.
Then the wheel is locked with
two separate locks, the key to one
lock being kept by the District
Clerk and the other key kept by
the iSheriff. As jurors are need-
ed, the wheel is revolved to mix
the names and the required num-
ber drawn for (preparation of jury
lists.
Three persons must be present
when the wheel is unlocked and
the names drawn therefrom— the
Sheriff (or one of his deputies),
the District 'Clerk (or one of his
deputies), and the District Judge.
Upon completion of currently re-
quired jury lists, all names are re-
turned to the container, which is
again double locked.
Later, when the time comes
around to prepare a new set of
lists, some of the names will very
likely be drawn again. Others
may never be drawn.
In. counties not operating under
the jury wheel system, the Dist-
rict Judge at each term of his

(This being deer hunting- sea-
son, the following was borrowed
from a hunting magazine.)
The Old Man paused to light
his pipe, and then he turned
around and pointed the stem at
me. His face was very serious in
the firelight and there seemed to
be frost on his whiskers.
“You, boy,’ he said. “By this
time you know a lot about guns,
but you don’t know a lot about
guns and deer together. Many a
man loses his wits when he sees
a big ol’ buck bust out of the
bushes with a rockin’ chair on his
head. Trained hunters shoot each
other. They get overexcited and
just bang away into the bushes.
Mind what I say. A deer ain’t a
deer unless it’s got horns on its
head and you can see all of it at
once. We don’t shoot does and
we don’t shoot spike bucks and
we don’t shoot each other. There
ain’t no sense to shootin’ a doe or
a young’un. One buck can ser-
vice hundreds of does, and one
doe will breed you a mess of deer.
If you shoot a young’un, you
haven’t got much meat, and no
horns at all, and you’ve kept him
from breedin’ to make more deer
for you to shoot. If you shoot a
man, they’ll likely hang you, and
if the man is me I will be awful
gol-damned annoyed and come
back to ha’nt you. You mind that
gun, and don’t pull a trigger un-
til you can see what it is and
where it is. Mind, I say.”
