_____The atmosphere is really ex-
citing. There are pool tables,
pinball machines and a juke box in
the side room. Old Soap Creek
Saloon calendars and bumper
stickers cover the walls. A huge
buffalo head is over the bar. The
bar was transported from the old
location to its present location in
the back of a 1946 Dodge pick-up.

The main room has many tables
and a dance floor. There is a
wooden stage at the front which
provides a place for the bands to
perform on. The Saloon can hold up
to 600 people. It gets pretty wild
with that many people.
The building now housing the
Soap Creek Saloon was originally
the Skyline Club, which was known
for having over 130 consecutive
national acts, such as Elvis Presley
and the Grand Ole Opry. . Due to
the desire of the Skyline owners to
move out of the tavern business,
Soap Creek Saloon took over the
location.

The place was built before the
Municipal Auditorium in Austin, so
many of the famous people going to
Austin would" play at Soap Creek
Saloon. Among those who have-
played there were Joe Ely, Willie
Nelson, Asleep at the Wheel and
Jerry Jeff Walker. Some of the
local groups who have played there
are the Cobras, the Lotions and the
T-Birds. The music played is a
variety of country western, rhythm
and blues, rock and roll and new
wave.
