rector of the Bureau of Jewish Education's Re-
source Center, has been compiling Operation
Exodus curricula for Houston's Jewish schools. -

In addition, the Women's Division of the Jewish Federa-
tion has arranged to distribute Tzedakah boxes specifical-
ly designed for children. After the students have complet-
ed their awareness lessons, they will each receive a
Tzedakah box and be encouraged to become part of this
historic event.

curriculum to
involve Jewish
students in
Operation
Exodus

• he third annual Leo Horvitz Scholar-in-
Residence Program of the Jewish Com-
munity Center (JCC) will open Jan. 28,
• with Professor Shalom M. Paul serving as
this year's scholar. Described as "a vibrant and
electifying teacher", Professor Paul will present
a series of courses and lectures from Jan. 28-
Feb. 20.
Paul is professor of Bible Studies at Hebrew
University, in Jerusalem, Israel. Prior to a year's
sabbatical in the Department of Judaic Studies
The members of the Women's Division Tzedakah Box Proj-
ect committee are shown with their children and the spe-
cially designed Tzedakah box to be distributed to over 5,000
lewish children. Curricula developed by the Bureau of lew-
ish Education will teach the children about Operation Exo-
dus and Tzedakah. Pictured are (back row) Lynn Schmulen,

During the summer, Sigalit Davis, who teaches at J. E.
Karpf Torah Day School and Congregation Emanu El, pre-
pared materials on "Soviet Immigration and Resettlement
in Israel and U.S.A." Anat Kalisky, a very talented graduate
of the I. Weiner Jewish Secondary School, designed and
drew all the art work.
Lerman then collated four different age-level appropri-
ate curricula which’include lesson plans, workbooks,
hands-on activities, games and posters. The secondary
level curriculum also includes a full-length video.
The aim of this project is to enable the students to take
part in Operation Exodus, the Jewish world-effort on be-
half of Soviet Jewry and to increase their awareness of

purpose and program and a strong commitment and enthusiasm for achieving its goals,
including that of reducing prejudice in our community and ensuring the safety of the
Jewish people."
In accepting the position of executive director, Harberg said, "I'm deeply commit-

sumed the position of executive director of the
agency's Southwest Regional Office. She suc-
ceeds Loren A. Finkelstein, who recently re-
signed as executive director Of the agency.
Announcing Harberg's appointment, Ronald
Finger, chairman of ADL's Southwest Regional
Board, commented, "Barbara brings to the po-
sition a wealth of knowledge about the agency's
