Leon Gantt Patterson of Burton
was arrested for the murder of

in the Washington County jail on
other charges at the time of his
arrest. He is still in the Washing-
ton County Jail.
Justice of the Peace Paul Fischer
issued a warrant for Patterson on
Tuesday. August 15. for the mur-
der of Mrs. Home.
Patterson worked for Mrs
Horne and lived near her, which is
near the Lee County/Washington
County line in the FM 1697 and
Cedar Creek area and near the
place where her body was found.
She lived alone. The investigation
revealed that her 2000 white
Chevrolet pickup was also found
in that area, on Sandstone Road,
the day after her body was found.
Patterson, a black male, born on
February 1, 1985. is 5'9“ tall and
weighs 158 lbs. He had been ar-
rested on January 6. 2006 in Wash-
ington County for a different
charge, theft of property. $500-
$ 1,500. He was released on bail on
his own recognizance on January
7, 2006, for that charge.
On Tuesday. August 22, 2006,
Patterson appeared before the
Honorable Reva L. Towslee
Corbett’s District Court for forg-
ery. His attorney is Bruno Shimek
and he had been in jail for 13 days
at that time.
The Washington County’s Dis
trict Court also was looking at
three other forgery-related
charges on Tuesday.
Mrs. Horne, known as “Terry”
by her friends and family, was
found at 6:30 a.m. on August 3 and
was last seen alive at a Veterans
Auxiliary meeting in Burton at ap-
proximately 8 p.m. Wednesday
night. August 2. 2006. It appeared
she was the victim of a horrendous
murder and had died between 8:30
p.m. and 10:30 p.m. Wednesday
night. Lee County Justice of the

dead at the scene after Lee County
