Saturday, the Llano Yellow
Jacket Girls Cross Country team
traveled to Round Rock’s Old
Settler’s Park to compete in the
state cross country meet.
After a rough start, the girls
fought their way to a fifth place
finish with two runners, Lacey
Leifeste, a sophomore, and Sa-
rah Barkley, a freshman, bring-
ing home medals. Shown here,
the two placed seventh and
nineth respectively, with times
equal to or better than season’s
best.
According to Head Coach Steve
Goleman, the girls ran tough and
represented Llano well. With the
exception of two seniors, Jordan
Willmann and Jordana Rode, the
entire squad will be back next
year. (See details on page 16)

Also, the council decided to create a new job title of Golf Course
manager — which will not add new personnel.
“We feel like we need one person in charge of not just the pro
shop, but all of the activities at the golf course,” Cook said.
In other action the council:
• Approved a lease agreement with 360 Communications (Alltel)
of a 60 x 60-foot piece of property for the purpose of installing a
communications tower near Avon and Taylor Streets.
• Approved the expansion of an interlocal agreement between the
city and the 33rd Judicial District Narcotic Enforcement Team (Drug
Task Force). The council awarded the NET Team $1,200 as part of
the agreement. The NET Team also delivered a report on the year’s
activities to council.
• Tabled a motion to consider a proposal from a business operator
to operate at the municipal airport as well as run day to day activi-
ties there. A committee of two council members was formed to look
into the proposal.

Monday, in a regular meeting of the Llano City Council, approval
was given for two new job titles in the city ranks, a Public Works
Director/Cit Engineer and a Golf Course Manager.
Tuesday, City Manager Philip Cook announced that Mark L.
Sherley as accepted the poistion of Public Works Director.
“We’re very pleased to get Mr. Sherley here,” Cook said. “He’s an
engineer and a surveyor and I think he can help us get some things
in orderin some areas.”
Sherley is currently the assistant of public works and city engi-
neer for the City of Groves, Texas. He is a licensed engineer and
surveyor and is experienced in water and wastewater utilities, drain-
age, land development and surveying.
He is a graduate of Lamar University, where he received a Civil
Engineering degree.
“I feel very fortunate to have someone of Mr. Sherley’s calibre
come to Llano,” said Mayor Terry Hutto. “I feel like we have found
the right man for the job.”
