Natalicio had nothing to do with poll; is tired of faculty forums
By Janet Perez
tun wrer
Interim President Diana
Natalicio said she had no in-
fluence over the questions a ked
in a controversial faculty poll, not
did she request a copy of the
questions from poll conductor
William Kaigh
“I have no control over my in-
box," she said "I didn’t want to
get involved in influencing
anything Profevor Kaigh was do-
ing "
During the Oct. 9 faculty
forum, Kaigh, who conducted the
poll with his company K
Associates, said that he had
allowed Natalicio to see a copy
before it was conducted
After the forum, some pro-
fexsors voiced their concern over
the possibility that Natalicio may
have had some influence over the
questions asked in the poll or in
the results that were released
Philosophy Professor David
Hall said Natalie lo’s dec ision to
look at the poll questions was
“out of bounds "
Natalicio disagreed
"Looking at the questions does
not mean to me it wav com-
promised," she said
Natalic io admitted that she did
not like some of the questions that
were asked, hut that she did not
ask Kaigh to change them
She added that after receiving
the copy of the poll, she showed
it to Associate Dean of Graduate
Studies and Research Harmon
Hosch
Kaigh said Hosch made "con-
structive changes’’ in the poll
Natalicio Mid she let Hosch see
the poll bec ause of his expertise
in the field and also her ause he
had worked with Kaigh before
"I was concerned only about
some of the questions about the
University I certainly didn't give
him (Kaigh) any input," the Mid
Natalic to also Mid that the poll
was not well designed by Kaigh
Kaigh said in an interview law
week that Natalicio had no in
fluence over his roll and that he
is “most emphatically not ad
ministration "
In an interview last week,
English Professor Walter Taylor
called the poll ‘‘another piece of
administrative propaganda
Natalicio Mid die was not us-
ing the revolt* of the poll and to
her knowledge, no one else was
using them either
She went on to question the
scheduling of the law forum
‘‘I think it’s interesting that the
forum was scheduled right after
the results were released and they
ended up attaching them," die
Mid
Natalic to added that the results
of the poll may have changed the
tone of the forum
"They (faculty forum
organizers) mint have had some
expectations about the results 1
it don’t really understand what
happened," she said
Although the forum was dated
to discuss issues facing the
University, such a* academic
standards, Natalicio wa* once
again the central topic
Natalic io Mid that if the forums
would focus on the problems fac -
ing the University, die would
have no problems becoming in-
volved in the discussion
"I have no problem talking
with faculty," die Mid
As for the constant attention
she has received in the pad two
faculty forums, Natalicio said the
is not particularly interested in it
‘I’m kind of tired of it I think
the forum has gotten more atten
tion than it deserves,” she said
Natalicio will he holding her
own press conference this after
noon at 1:30 and Mid die will
discuss the University’s students
‘Professor Taylor may argue
that that is a while way ot cam
paigning for the presidency," the
said, referring to a comment by
Taylor at the last forum that she
wet campaigning for the Univer-
sity presidency a* if die were run
ning for political office.
“HOW 1 MADE $18,000
FOR COLLEGE
DY WORKING WEEKENDS.”
When my friends and I graduated
from high school, we all took part time
jobs to pay for college.
They ended up in car washes and
hamburger joints, putting in long hours
for little pay.
Not me. My job takes just one
weekend a month and two weeks a year.
Yet, I’m earning $18,000 for college.
Because I joined my local Anny
National Guard.
They’re the people who help our
state during emergencies like hurri-
canes and floods. They’re also an
important part of our country’s military
defense.
So, since I'm helping them do such
an imp rtant job, they’re helping me
make it through school.
Army National Guard
E Americans At Their Best.
As soon as I finished Advanced
Training, the Guard gave me a cash
bonus of $2,000. I’m also getting
another $5,000 for tuition and books,
thanks to the New GI Bill.
Not to mention my monthly Anny
Guard paychecks. They’ll add up to
more than $11,000 over the six years
I'm in the Guard.
And if I take out a college loan, the
Guard will help me pay it back-up to
$1,500 a year, plus interest.
It all adds up to $18,000—or m< re
— for college f r just a little of my time.
And that's a heck of a better deal than
any car wash will give you.
