A cutting affray took place last night
at VUIenueva'a saloon on Laredo street.
Two Mexicans named respectively
Crestobal Davlla and Encarnaclon
Ylrjan were drinking when some re-
marks were bandied and quarreling
commenced which ultimately led to
Crestobal Davlla drawing a knife and
cutting Ylrjan across the face with It
Indicting a terrible gatb extending
from the ear to the corner of Virjan'a
mouth severing the cheek. Had It not
been for the opportune appearance of
OtUcer Wllklns on the scene doubtless
Davlla would have Inflicted other In-
juries on the wounded man. Davlla on
(Vllklas attempting to arrest him rushed
at the otllcer with the aame weapon
but an adroit blow on the head felled the
Mexican and be was carried to the bat
cave. Vlrjan had bis wound speedily
