Little League teams in tourney
Mercedes Little League teams took
part in a “season-ending tournament”
on Saturday, June 3, at the Little League
Ballpark.
The tourney was kicked-off at 9
a.m. with the Angels losing a hard-
fought game to the Senators 9-12, re-
ports Spokesman Bob de la Rosa. The
second game saw the Mets beat the
Braves 10-9.
“Game three was probably among
the best games of the season, as the
Twins played the tourney favorite Jets
to a 4-4 tie at the end of the regulation
four innings,” he says. “The players
hung in tough for two extra innings
and about two hours of play. Micheal
Soto of the Twins and Marky Trevino
for the Jets pitched complete games
for their teams, while Marky also
helped himself well at the plate.”
Game four saw the Giants get by
the Cubs 8-6.
The major league tourney followed
right after, with four games that same
afternoon, starting with the Red Sox
losing to the surprising A’s, 5-6.
Joaquin Zavala and Joe Martin
Rodriguez had a great game for the
A’s.
Next game pitted the Astros against
the White Sox, with the Astros taking
the victory, 15-4. Tray Trevino picked
up the victory for the Astros.
Pirates and Dodgers met in the
following game, with the Pirates tak-
ing this one, 18-4. Joey Tanguma had
a good game on the mound for the
Pirates. Bobby de la Rosa, Javier Ayala
and Frank Ramirez, along with Joey,
led the offense.
The last game of the night saw
Yankees defeat the Rangers, 22-5, with
Joe Huerta leading the offensive at-
tack. Brian Martinez also helped with
a lively bat.
Games will run all week, with the
champions to be crowned on Monday,
June 12 at 7:30 p.m. for the minors and
Tuesday, June 13 at 6 p.m. for the
majors. “Everybody is invited to come
out and see some of the best baseball
this side of Houston,” de la Rosa adds.
