in Ennis, has been transferred
from Fort Worth East District to
'Waxahachie District, and is as-
signed to Sardis, Ellis County, in
appointments announced at con-
ference last night. He is the son
of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Howard
of Ennis and his wife is the
former Mary Snipes of Bardwell.
They have one son, Wesley A.
Howard III.
For 3% years he was pastor
of White’s Chapel Methodist
Church, South Lake, Texas, and
while there was engaged in an
extensive building program-
built a parsonage and furnished
it; remodeled the sanctuary of
the church and built and furnish-
ed a fellowship hall.

Relations, national Seminar on
Adult Laboratory work, and
jurisdictional and national meet-
ings of executive secretaries.
He has taught in schools for
Christian Workers in Texas,
Arkansas, Oklahoma, Louisiana,
New Mexico, Missouri, and Ari-
zona and has conducted coach-
ing conferences for teachers-in-
training in Texas, Colorado,
Missouri, and Kansas, also serv-
ed five years as dean of the In-
terconference School for Chris-
tian Workers which involves
North Texas, West Texas, Rio
Grande, and Indian Mission Con-
ferences of The Methodist Chur-
ch (held at Perkins School of
Theology).
The Rev. Mr. Cardwell has
been active in the ecumenical
movement and has been presi-
dent of an inter-faith seminar,
visiting lecturer at Temple
Emanu-El (Dallas) and speaker
for National Conference of Chris-
tians and Jews. He is a member
of the inter-faith Association of
Religious Educators (Dallas
County) and was lecturer at the
Regional Institute on Police and
Community Relations (A and M
University) and at the National
Institute on Police and Commun-
ity Relations (Michigan State
University). He will teach
“Ecumenicity” in the Central
Texas Conference School of
Christian Mission at Southwest-
ern University in July of this
year.
The new Ennis minister’s hob-
bies are fishing, camping, hiking,
gardening, paleontology, and
printing.

Fast Rites Held
Wed. Afternoon
The funeral service for Mrs.
A. H. Moore, 66, Route 2, Kemp,
who died Sunday was held at 2
p.m. Wednesday in the Memorial
Baptist Church in Peeltown with
the Rev. Orbie Lamb of Ennis
and the Rev. Dempsey Langston
of Dallas officiating. Interment
was in the Shiloh Cemetery,
Kaufman County with her grand
sons serving as pallbearers: Billy
Earl Moore, Hoyt Allen Moore,
both of Grapevine; Jerry Glenn
Starr, both of Kaufman;
Alvin Ray Starr, both of
Kaufman, Ronald Joe Callahan,
Michael Lee Callahan, both of
Garland.
Mrs. Moore, formerly Myrtle
Lee Morehead, was born Septem-
ber 17, 1900 in Ruelshade, Tex.,
the daughter of H. J. and Mary
Hutcheson Morehead. In 1905 she
moved with her parents to Gar-
rett and then to Scurry in 1919.
On August 31, 1919 she was mar-
ried to Arthur H. Moore in a
double wedding in Scurry with
her sister, Lucy and Albert Har-
ris. They have resided in the
Scurry community in Kaufman
County for many years. She was
a member of the Lawrence
Gillespie
Church.

Funeral Services
Held at Ferris
Services for Mrs. Vena H.
Spurgeon, 50, were held at Green
Funeral Chapel, Ferris recently
with Rev. Jack McDaniel of
Waxahachie and Rev. W. A. Cor-
ley, officiating. Burial was in
Ferris Memorial Park North.
Mrs. Spurgeon died in a Wax-
ahachie hospital following an ex-
tended illness. She was born
June 24, 1'916, in Pontotoc, the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. L.
Carson. She was married to Jack
Spurgeon of Ferris September
24, 1943. Mrs. Spurgeon was a
member of the First Baptist
Church.
Survivors include her hus-
band, father, A. L. Carson of
Dallas; two sisters, Mrs. Violet
Plumlee and Mrs. Vonda Chan-
ey, both of Dallas.

Mrs. Joseph Intas, of Oberglo-
gou, East Germany. Requiem

Last Rites Held
This Morning
Requiem mass was celebrated
for Mrs. Anna Fabera, 80, at 10
a.m. today at St. John Catholic
Church with the Rev. Daniel El-
lertlhorpe as the celebrant. The
rosary was recited at 7:30 p.m.
on Sunday in the Keever Chapel.
Interment was in St. Joseph’s
Cemetery with the following
serving as pallbearers: Joe
Janicek, Julius Podhrosky, David
Podhrosky, Bob Podhrosky, all
of Dallas, George Janicek of
Mesquite, and Frank Hejny, En-
nis.
Mrs. Fabera, formerly Anna
Janicek, who died Friday
morning was born in Czechos-
lovakia on July 10, 1886. She
came to the United States with
her parents Mr and Mrs Frank
Janicek in 1895 when fourteen
years of age, settling in Ellis
County, west of Ennis. She was
married to Mathew Fabera and
they lived in the Crechville com-
munity for many years. Mr. Fab-
era passed away on July 11,
1957.
She is survived by one brother
Joe Janicek of Rt. 2, one
sister Mrs. Frances Gaida of Dal-
las; and a number of nieces and
nephews.

Mrs. Dorothy Fay Darden, 48.
of 5600 Roberts Drive, Waco,
died at 1 a.m. today in Upton,
Calif. She was a daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. E. F. Winterrowd of
Ennis.
(She is survived by her hus-
band, D. M. Darden of Waco,
one daughter, Mrs. Jimmy Perk-
ins, of Upton, Calif., in whose
home she was visiting; 2 grand-
children, Steve and Penn Perk-
ins, Upton; her parents, living
here, and three brothers, W. A.
Winterrowd, Taylor; Francis
Winterrowd, Lafayette, La., and
Charles M. Winterrowd, Hous-
ton.
A son, Bruce Novian, preced-
ed her in death in February,
this year.
Funeral services are pending
with a Waco funeral home.

formerly of Ennis, died this
morning at the Chester Clinic
there.
Mr. Mosley is survived by his
wife, the former Viva Lee Ber-
ry, and son, Richard Mosley; a
sister and three brothers.

p.m. Thursday at the Colonial
Baptist Church, Dallas, with
Dudley M. Hughes Funeral
Home directing.
Interment will be in Myrtle
Cemetery.

CADET D. K. MULKEY
Cadet David K. Mulkey of the
U.S.A.F. Academy of Colorado
Springs has arrived for a two
weeks’ visit with his parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Keith Mulkey, and
other Ennis relatives.
Cadet Mulkey, who is now 1st
class, is on the Dean’s List at the
Academy, where he is majoring
in Engineering Management and
will take jet pilot instruction
after completing his academic
education. He has just finished
participation in the June Week
activities which included the
Athletic Awards Banquet, All
Class Formal, Awards Parade,
Ring Dance and Ring Dining In,
Class Formal at the Broadmoor
and the Graduation Parade and
Final Revue.
Cadet Mulkey will return to
the Academy, after his visit,
where he will help train the 4th
Class men who will enter on
June 26. He will return to Ennis
in mid-July for another visit be-
fore entering the Academy for
the fall semester, which begins
Aug. 20.

Public Schools Supt. James W.
McCoy uie past weekend took
six Ennis boys to the Salvation
Army Camp near Midlothian for
a week’s outing.
They are: Billy Davis, 13, 904

Joly; Charles Mike Bradley, 12;
Norman Lee Bradley, 13; Loren-
zo Hernandez ,12, and Mike
Hernandez, 10, all of Route 2.
Mr. McCoy will go to the
camp Sunday and bring the lads

Funeral services for Walter V.
O’Neal, 64, retired U. S. Army
major, were held Wednesday at
Green Funeral Chapel, Ferris,
with military service and inter-
ment in Ferris Memorial Park
North. Chaplain Billy Ivey of
Fort Wolters, officiated.
Born at Trumbull, November
5, 1902, Major O’Neal, was a
member of the Ferris High
School Class of 1921. He died
Friday, June 2, in Miami, Flor-
ida. !
Survivors are a brother, Willie
0. O’Neal, San Diego, Calif. and
four sisters, Mrs. Azle Hardy,
Fort Worth, and Mrs. Mattie Ann
White, Mrs. Ruby Lee Cole and
Mrs. Dorothy Lech, all of Dallas.
Pallbearers, from Fort Wol-
ters, were Pvt. James P. Walker,
Pfc. James L. Benoit, Pfc. Tho-

the high tribute paid to the Most
Rev. Thomas K. Gorman, bishop
of the Diocese of Dallas - Fort
Worth.
The Most Rev. Fulton J.
Sheen, bishop from Rochester,
New York—emphasizing "if
there was every an bishop loved
by his fellow bishops, it is he”—
pair lofty tribute to him, in the
celebration of his triple Jubilee
Mass at Dallas Memorial Audi-
torium, Tuesday afternoon.
Bishop Sheen called it the
“reward on earth that the Lord
gives good men, the Golden
Jubilee.’ He was honored for
50 years in the ministry, 15
years as bishop in Dallas—and
his 75th birthday.
St. John Parish of Ennis was
well represented at the memor-
able occasion.

Memorial Pulpit
Dedicated, Rider
Methodist Church
The Walter Rider Methodist
Church sanctuary was filled to
capacity in the Sunday morning
worship service, when a pulpit
was dedicated in memory of L.
D. Wilson.
Mrs. L. D. Wilson and son, and
daughter - in - law, Mr. and Mrs.
Dwain Wilson gave the pulpit to
the Rider church in memory of
their husband and father, whom
they lost in death, and who was
a member of Rider church.
Dwain Wilson, son of the de-
ceased, presented the memorial
to the church to be “dedicated

Funeral services for Mrs. W.
R. McCord, 89, of Ferris, who
died there Thursday were held
at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the
First Methodist Church there
with burial in Ferris Memorial
Park North.
A native of Ellis County, she
was a graduate of the old Speer
Institute at Weatherford and
Metropolitan Business College in
Dallas. She was also a member
of the First Methodist Church
here and the Order of Eastern
Star.
Survivors: one daughter, Miss
Maurine McCord of Ferris; one
son, Robert Pratt McCord of
Ferris; one brother, James Ar-
thur Pratt of Corpus Christi and
two granddaughters and
great-grandchildren.

HOME FROM VACATION TRIP
Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Skriva-
nek and Mr. and Mrs. George
Zaidle have returned from a
motor vacation and visited Mr.
Skrivanek’s brother, Alvin Skri-
vanek and family of Stanton,
Neb. From there they drove to
Iowa and Missouri, visited three
days and nights at Bella Vista
resort in Ark., driving on home
from there. Mr. Skrivanek re-
turned to his duties in the Ennis
Daily News plant today.

Duties Methodist Thursday
The Rev. and Mrs. Roy A. Red-
man are moving here today from
Waxahachie and will live at 1710
Lyndale, Mr. Redman having
been assigned as associate pastor
and minister of music at Ennis
First Methodist Church.
He will assume his duties
Thursday.
The Rev. Mr. Redman will
hold first church choir rehearsal
at 7 p.m. Thursday.
The Rev. Mr. Redman was
born at Wichita Falls, in 1938;
and was graduated from High
School at Saint Jo, Texas, 1956;
then received a B. A. in music
at North Texas State University
in 1960; B. D., Perkins School
of Theology, SMU, 1963; Master
of Sacred Music, SMU, 1964. He
was a pupil of Russell Miller in
violin; of Norman Farrow in
voice; Lloyd Pfautsch, conduct-
ing.
He married Sharon K. Smith
in 1965 On trial, in North Texas
Conference in 1961; he was au-
thorized full connection in 1963;
ordained deacon, 1961; elder,
1963; certified Minister of Music,
1964. He was choir director at
Saint Jo. 1854-56; Denton, Tex-
as, 1956-60, then engaged in
field work, Mesquite, 1960-63;
choir director. Sulphur Springs,
1963-64; associate pastor and
Minister of Music, First Metho-
dist Church, Waxahachie, Texas,
1964-67.

twenty-one members of the L. D.
Wilson family in the worship
service, to witness and worship,
in the service in memory of
their loved one.
The youngest member of the
L. D. Wilson family, Gary
Dwain, was chistened and bap-
! tised, also in this service.

Services Held
Fri. Afternoon
The funeral service for Tho-
ma's H. McClintock, 88, was held
at Mt. Pleasant at 2 p.m. Friday
■ with interment in the East New
Hope Cemetery. The body lay in
state in the J. E. Keever Mort-
uary until Friday morning.
Mr. McClintock was born De-
cember 8, 1878 in Clay County,
Alabama, the son of J. W. and
Hulda Mitchell McClintock. He
moved to Texas with his parents
in 1883 at the age of five years,
settling in Titus County. In 1901
was married to Miss Ollie Smith,
Cason who died in 1947. He op-
erated a blacksmith shop in Mt.
Pleasant for 25 years and in 1944
they moved to Ferris where he
operated a blacksmith shop for
thirty years, retiring at the age
Of eighty-five. For the past three
years he has made his home in
Ennis with his daughter, Mrs.
Fred Gilmore. He was a member
of the Baptist Church, New
Hope.
Surviving him are two sons,
0. iL. McClintock, Graham; 0. W.
McClintock, Dallas; two daugh-
ters, Mrs. Fred Gilmore, Ennis;
Mrs. Myron Mims, Dallas; twelve
grandchildren; fourteen great-
grandchildren; and one sister,
Mrs. W. R. Kerr, Shreveport,
La.
