Two Will Receive
Ball Scholarships
The Dr. William P. Ball scho-
larship will be awarded to two
of seven senior boy nominees
next Friday night at CHS gra-
duation exercises.
Nominees for the four-year
scholarship include Tommy A1-
taras, Kit Cooke, Randy Hamil-
ton, Craig Hudgins, Don Kyle,
Kenny Morris and Milton
Schultz.
To be eligible for the $800 scho-
larship to Baylor University, an
applicant must be a graduating
male senior of CHS, exhibiting
good citizenship, moral Christian
character, intellectual ability,
leadership qualities, a gracious
personality and good physical
health.
A trust fund provides enough
money through interest to sup-
port at least three scholarships
at all times. However, because
of stock market changes, 12 peo-
ple will be provided with scho-
larships this year, 10 from pre-
vious years and two from the
seven nominees.
Since the inception of the scho-
larship program in 1942, 47 scho-
larships have been awarded. Stu-
dents are not expected to repay
the grants but are urged to as-
sist some worthy boy or girl in
obtaining a college education.
Karen Morrow straightens Tommy Allen's National Honor
Society stole as the two seniors try on their caps and gowns
in anticipation of graduation.
Yearbook Staff Presents Theme,
Under The Big Top: To CHS
The 1965 edition of the Santa
Fe Trail was presented to the
student body and faculty last Fri-
day. The theme of this year’s
annual is “Under the Big Top,”
and its purpose is to recall mem-
ories of the merry-go-round at
CHS.
Tribute is paid to the mem-
ory of two former students, Sha-
dy Blair and Robert Fullerton.
The annual staff dedicated its
work to Miss Rilla Armstrong,
a member of the faculty for 37
years who plans to retire at the
end of this school term.
Seniors featured as Best All-
Round and Most Popular were
Dinah Dement, Wayne Morrison,
Pinki Collins and Arlie Scott, re-
spectively. Taking honors as Mr.
and Miss CHS were Dinah Dem-
ent and Arlie Scott.
Thirteen students are given
special recognition in the “Who’s
Who” section. Seniors featured
are Jane Ballew, Ruth Mullen,
Suzanne Stipe, Tommy Altaras,
Tyler Baker, Bobby Davis, Craig
Hudgins, Jim Johnson and Rich-
ard Trussell.
Appearing as the three juniors
in the section are Elizabeth Lee,
Jeannine McPherson and Ginny
Roberts.
The annual sports a red cover
this year with white lettering. It
also contains more pages than
in previous years.
The annual staff worked hard
to produce the finished book.
“This year we made several
changes in the annual, trying
desperately to keep up with the
changing trend in annuals all ov-
er the country,” commented Co-
Editor Jim Johnson. “For the
success of our ambitious theme,
we are grateful to the staff art
editor.”
