A commendable decree has been
issued in the German principality
of Walduh forbidding the issuance
of a marriage license to an habitual
drunkard unless satisfactory proof
of reformation be produced.
It is said that a certain drunkard
couched his will in the following
timely words: “I leaye to society
a marred character a wretched
example and a memory that will
soon rot. I leave to my parents
the rest of their lives as much sor-
row as human hearts can bear. I
leave to my brothers and sisters as
much mortification and injury as I
could bring upon them. I leave to
my wife a broken heart a life of
wretchedness poverty and shame
to weep over my untimely death.
1 give and bequeath to each of my
children poverty ignorance dis-
grace. and the remembrance that
their father was a monster.

Urging.
I. would urge parents to send
their children to one of my Pen-
manship classes Monday. Listen:
1 guarantee improvement. At
close of school I show you specimens
of your child’s writing at begin-
ning and close of the class. If you

Mr. Holloway the gentleman who
arrested Jackson the counterfeiter
has received several telegrams from
Williamsville Missouri where Jack-
son was recaptured and the pur-
port of all these messages was to
the effect that he had been turned
over to a United States Marshal
and would be brought back here.
Every train has been watched since
that lime to get a look at Ihe man
who would undertake to make a sil-
ver dollar when they are so easily
gotten by a little “sweat of the
brow" but at the present Hine
nothing has been seen either of
the marshal or prisoner. It may
bethat Jackson has concluded to
stay In Missouri and has taken out
papers to ges a stay or perhaps he
I. as through a car window while
enroute here and made his escape.
These counterfeiters take desper-
ate chances Hometlmvs.

Pine Bluff has an athletic club
and is having anv Dumber of scraps
tip there. The Conimcrcial reports
an arrival in that city of one Denny
Gallagher whit claims to be a leath-
er weight of the South and South
West and who cballanges any one
in the city to tivht him for any
amount of money from one up to a
thousand. It looks to us that if we
had $10(10 to bet on anything it
would be invested in pea:e and
quietude. Wc would certainly not
drag our coat around offering some
fellow our pile to tear t he tail ol if.
or put our eyes in mourning. Some
fellows are such fools and Denny is
in this class.
The goldbttgs tell us we. have
plenty of money and so we have.
Now where do we get this money?
We borrow it If we did not have
to pay it back it would be different
but that is tlie rub. What we
want is more dollars belter dollars
and want them with Uncle Sam's
shield stamped on them as we also
want tltem made ol \inericansilver
