Two of the prettiest floats in

those of W. H. Booth furniture
and O’Dwyer & Ahern dry goods.
Today the side walks reminded
us of a circus day. The sidewalks
were jammed with humanity and
walking was almost impossible.

Our merchants did not commence
to decorate their store fronts until
eight o’clock this morning and by
eleven o’clock most of the store
houses were floating old glory.
Governor Dan Jones arrived here
last night and was met by his
friends and his comfort was well
provided for by those who met

Labor Day Parade-
continued from First Page.
Ledwidge & Co. plumbers made
a good display of sanitary goods.
They had two small coons in a bath
tub taking a shower bath.
The W. P. O. Company displayed
Upion Oil signs had a good float.
The P. D. saloon started out with
a neat float but the jostling it got
dismantled it and it was driven out
of the procession on Vine street.
W H. Booth’s furniture store was
represented by a float.
H. V. Beasley the music dealer
had a float in line and a negro baud
to make music. He keeps up with
the times in advertising bis house.
The Fort Worth Lager Beer
agency had in a nice float.
The George Hoffman sanitary
plumbing establishment was rep-
resented on a float with a good dis-
play of plumbers goods.
O Dyer & Ahern had a float and
it was stocked with a display of
their late purchases. It was one of
the best from a trades display stand
point in line. Several of the male
clerks were mounted on this float.
The Texarkana Poultry and Pet
Stock Association had in a nice
float. Several coops of fine chick-
ens rabbits and pigeons were on
the float.
Moody A Wright painters were
represented by a float.
Edwards Harness Co. had a big
float with their men working on the
same making harness and saddles.
T. J. Hobgood had his delivery
wagons in line.
A cotton and corn field was rep-
resented on a float with the colored
brother picking cotton. On the
banner of this float we read “By
Industry we Thrive.” The farmers
many of them will laugh at this
when they know that their cotton
cost them more to make than they
can get for it.
O. P. Taylor had in the procession
an old “prairie schooner” on the
sheet of which the people were told
that he was a real estate dealer and
h id real estate to sell.
Mr. B. C. Vanderweghe had a
couple of floats advertising Anheu-
ser-Busch beer.
The Standard Novelty Works had
in three floats the first one loaded
with two pine logs the second
one was loaded with lumber and
shingjes and the third a beautiful
pafioda trimmed with scroll work.
A brick yard was next represent-
ed negro moulding brick and two
offbearing them.
The Iron Mountain andT. P. road
was represented with floats.
Huddleston Bros. had a float in
line.
Hardin Bros. second hand store
had a decorated carriage the pret-
tiest in the procession.
Sam Solinsky was out in-a horse
less carriage—the vehicle being
pulled by a couple of mules.
The Texarkana Carriage Co had
a couple of floats in line on which
exhibited various kinds of street
vehicles.
A long line of carriages and bug-
gies as well as horsemen brought
up the rear of the parade. The
first excursion train pulled out for
the park which is three miles off
at 1:30 o’clock well loaded. The
train will run during the evening as
the demand may suggest.
We cannot give the program to
be read at the grounds simply be-
cause it was not furnished us.
The float that attracted a great
deal of attention was one gotten
up by Percy H. Edwards sales
agent for the John H. Dwight &
Company “Cow Brand Soda.” This
float had a sac-simile package of
soda which was 12 feet long and 8
feet high and 4 feet at the end.
The cow. which is the trade mark
of the John H. Dwight & Company
soda was painted in oil and the ar-
tist made a good job under his
brush. Mr. Edwards’ superintended
the decoration of this float and it
reflects credit upon him. On each
side of the float was a picture of
Admiral Dewey and under it was
“Dewey did it and so will Cow
Brand Soda.” Mr. Edwards did
himself proud on this occasion and
the people no doubt will continue
as they have heretofore call for
"Cow Brand” soda for their bread
and biscuit.
Died.
J E. Crawford who came here
some twelve months ago to take a
position in the drug store of 8
Lemly was taken sick about seven
days ago and died last night. His
remains were shipped to Atlanta
this morning for burial.
Mr. Sam Dunaway the genial
“mixologist" who presides at the
big fountain of Smith Drug com-
pany will have upon the board for
today quite a nntnber of tempting
new drinks ‘just watch the
board.” Our young friend certain-

The colored men of this city made
up enough money Saturday after-
noon to pay for a coffin and the
shipping expense of the remains of
the colored man assassinated here 1
on Friday night. Many of the!
whites chipped in to help them out.
We don’t suppose those Boston
Mass. people would believe the lat-1

true;
