three brothers, Bill LaShore and
Lloyd Rogers of Ennis, and six

Funeral services for Roy Smith,
age 47, former resident of Forney,
who died in San Francisco, Cal.,
Wednesday, were held in Ennis
this morning at 9 o’clock in Kee-
ver’s Chapel with Rev. A. J. Kirk-
land, pastor of the First Baptist
Church, officiating. The body ar-
rived in Ennis Sunday night and
was taken to the Keever chapel.
Interment was made in Myrtle
cemetery with J. E. Keever in
charge of, arrangements.
Pallbearers were T. E. Hay,
George Fite, Joe McCrary, F. L.
Roorbach, W. H. Wheeler and T.
A. Vines.
Mr. Smith was born in Forney,
Texas, January 29, 1889, where he
lived until six years ago when he
went to San Francisco, Cal., where
he has resided since. He was a
member of the Baptist Church. He
had been sick since April.
Surviving are his mother, Mrs.
T. A. Smith of Houston, sister of
the late Eugene Stephenson of
Ennis, and a sister, Mrs. R. P.
Baker of Houston and one broth-
er, M. A. Smith of Schulenberg,
Texas.

Geer, of Hearne, a niece of Mrs.

Mrs. T. B. McAlister, long time
resident of Ellis county and mother
of Mrs. Roy T. Borders of Wax-
ahachie, died at 6:35 o’clock Friday
morning at her home, located some
four miles north of Maypearl. She
had been in poor health for sev-
eral years and had been critically
ill since last Sunday.
Funeral services will be neld at
Ike Baptist Church Saturday af-
ternoon at 3 o’clock, with the Rev.
R. R. Freddy, pastor of the church
offiicating. Burial will follow in
Waxahachie City Cemetery.
Mrs. McAlister, the former Miss
Josie Kidd, was born in Tennessee
on Dec. 24, 18$5, and came to
Texas from Knoxville, Tenn., in
1891. She was married to T .B.
McAlister on May 29, 1898. She
was well known over the county,
having lived at Ike, Dixon’s Chap-
el, Bardwell, near Waxahachie and
near Maypearl. She had been a
member of Ike Baptist Church for
. 26 years';
She is survived by her husband
and five children, Mrs. Borders,
Waxahachie; Mrs. C. S. Soffre-
gen, Ike; J. B. McAlister, Venus;
Howard McAlister, Maypearl; and
Mrs. Claud Almand, Nash. Also
surviving are six grandchildren, a
brother, W. R. Kidd, Kaufman, and
a sister, Mrs. J. H. Ledbetter, of
Waco.

Appreciation is expressed by the
Ennis Daily News to those who
assisted in the Ennis Daily News
party Saturday night in giving out
the election returns, to the Fla
Lewis Cotton Company for the use
of their office, to J. E. Keever and
the National Garage for the loud-
speaking equipment, and to those
who assisted in the office.
One of the largest crowds ever
attending assembled on Main street
and West Avenue for the returns,
and they remained until the last
minute when the office was clos-
ed shortly after midnight. Only
one box out of fifty boxes in the
county, failed to complete their
county Saturday night and it was
completed Sunday. The returns
from fifty boxes began coming in
at 7:30 and were given out over
the loudspeaker.
At intervals when returns were
not being given, entertainment was
furnished by a radio.

Muirhead mule barn was almost
a total loss, also the Weverka
blacksmith shop and the Postel
negro barbershop. A heavy water
and smoke damage was reported

No insurance was
located
carried on
any of the buildings, all frame
and only $800 insurance was car-
ried by the Scott Oil Company.
The buildings were owned by J.
W. Weverka and J. W. Rogers.
Beer Raid At
Palmer Nets
130 Bottles
Waxahachie, Texas, July 27.—A
raid at Palmer upon a recently
opened beer joint netted 130 bot-
tles of beverage, and resulted in
the arrest of one man, who entered
a plea of guilty and vas fined.
Deputy Sher iff Rogers and Cariker
handled the case.
Mrs. W. L. Foster and daughter.
Miss Ethel Foster of Sterling City,
are guests in the home of Mr. and
Mrs. "C. P. Kendall, Mrs. Kendall
expects to return home with them
Friday for a visit.
