the coast of New Hampshire are being
put in a state of defence.
Ifontpeller, Vt.,April 25.—Both branch-
es of the Vermont Legislature have appro
printed $2,000,000 of dollars for military
purposes.
Wheeling, April 41.—It is believed
there will be a division of the State of Vir-
ginia. #
Indianapolis, April 25.—Gov. Morton
recommends an appropriation of $1,000,-
000 to parchase arms and munitions of
war.
He appeals to Kentucky to maintain
the constitution and the Union!
Philadelphia, April 25.—Gen. Lamon
s'ays Lincoln; in replying to the Baltimore
committee, asking peace, said:
"If your people will not attack us, we
will not attack tbem. If they do, we will
retaliate severely. Troops for Washing-
ton most and shall come through Mary
land:
Gov Hicks convenes the Maryland Leg-
islature in extraordinary session to-morrow,
in consevuence of the Federal troops at

Great efforts are being made to defend
" Washington city, but the ability to db so

teers, having Southern affinities, are not
considered reliable supporters of Lincoln.

The State of Texas, to the Sheriff or any
lawful efficer of said county—Greeting:
WHEREAS, R. D. ApRice has filed in
my office his affidavit, on the 9th
of April, 1861, that Israel Crawford is
indebted to him on an account, of which
the following is a true copy, to wit:
"$100 I. Crawford, G. F. Border, and J.
P. Border,
1860. To R. D. ApRice, Dr. •
Aug. 1st. For hauling the balance of ma
chinery from the Trinity river
and the vicinity of Centerville,
* Leon county, $100 00.
" G. F. Border and J. P. Border are
securities for the delieverv of the machin-
ery, by I. Crawford, by the 1st of Au-
gust, I860, which machinery is not yet
delivered. R. D. ApRICE."
And also that I. Crawford and J. P.
Border are transient persons, so that the
ordinary process of law cannot be served
upon them.
This, therefore, is to command you,that
you cite the said I. Crawfoid and J.
P. Border, by publishing this citation three
successive weeks in the Navarro Express,
newspaper published in the town of Cor
sicana, Navarro county, being the nearest
japer to this beat, to be and appear before
me,at the Post Office on Chambers' creek,
on the first Saturday in May, 1861, then
and. there to answer said complaint.
Herein fail not, and have due return of
this writ as the law directs.
Given under my hand and official seal,
this 9th day of April, A, D. 1861.

Corporation of Corsicana, the 26th April,
1861, the following Ordinance was passed:
No. 23. Every pet son pasturing or turn-
ing horse or other animal into the court
house yard, shall pay a fine of twenty five
dollars.

All members of the Stray Horse Association
have the privilege of advertising (two insertions
wider this head, all the horses that may stray
from them, without any extra charge.
Notice of Katrays.
Estrayed from the undersigned, living
six miles west of HfMsboro, Hill county, in
April, 1860, one dark iron gray or flea
bitten brown, five years old this spring,
tranded on the left shoulder JM very dim.
Also branded S, do not recollect where,
saddle marked, and a roan or white epot
"in forehead, very thin mane and tail.
Also two bay fillies, one branded JB,
two white spots in ber face, three years old
thie spring. The other bas a small white
spot io the forehead, not branded. . Both
of these are half breeds, the latter more
eoarse than the former.

colt, with flax mane and tail, branded on
left sboulded 2. One tall sorrel horse, 4

-years old, 14|- hands high, white spot on
left side of her neck near the shoulder,
branded M on left shoulder. One 2 year
old filly, blaze face, no brands. Appraised
to $125.
Also, by G. M. Sawyer, one sorrel horse,
8 years old, blaze face, left hind foot
white, shod all around, has a small bell
on, 14£ hands high,appraised to $60. Also
one iron gray mare mule, saddle and gear
marks, 6 years old. has a large bell on;

holders of the Navarro county Agri-
cultural and Mechanical Association will
be held it the court house, in Corsicana,
on the first Monday in May, to elect offi-
cers for tbe ensuing year, make provision
tor the next Fair, and attend to o*ber im-
portant business. The presence of all tbe
members is earnestly desired.

in the rear of Dr. Carter's Drug store,
and made arrangements for a constant
supply of beef, mutton, pork, <fec., on and
alter the 15th instant I will furnish the
citizens of Corsicana regularly with the
most choice meats to be obtained. Thank-
ful for the liberal patronage bestowed on
me last season, I respectfully solicit a con-
tinuance of the same. My invariable rule
is, " first come, first served."
Those indebted to roe for beef last year
are reqoested to pay up.
