sources of the country the PORK AND
BACON required for the Army; and for
that purpose lie invites proposals to furnish
those articles for on eyear from March 1,1857
The quantity reouired for the year is at
San Antouio 380,000 lbs., to be distributed as
follows: To Fort Bolknap, 40,000tbs; to
Camp Cooper, (near Fort Belknap) 40,000lbF;
to Fort Chadbourne, 20,000ft>s; to Fort Me,
Kavett, 20,000fts; to Fort Mason, 60,000lbs-
to Fort' Clark, 30,000!bs j to Fort Duncan;
50,000lbs; to Camp Lancaster, (El Paso,
route) 20,000)bs; to Fort Davis, (El Paso
route) 60,000ft,s.
Propositions are invited for tho supply for
each of the Posts separately, and for tho
whole at Sun Antonio.
Tho Polk must bo in pioccs not exceeding
six pounds in weight, (jowls, chines nnd
shanks excluded,) well curod with Turk's
Island or Liverpool salt, and packod in good
strong white-oak barrels, two-thirds hooped)
each barrel to contain 200R>s nctt, and to bo
filled with saturated brine. The Bacon must
JboVñurad *ith eftlt of equal quality, an;l
thoroughly smoked. Both must bo made of
corn-fatte\iod hogs, and be subject to inspec-
tion before being reoeived. The right must
be reserved to tho officer in chargo of tho sub-
sistence at the place of delivery, to call at
such times, and for such quantities, (not more
than a quartor, nor loss than one-twelfth of tho
whole,) as the interests of tho service may
require.
It is also desired to obtain FLOUR for
tho troops at Forts Chadoourno, McICavott
and Mason, for one year from August 1, 1857.
For Forts Chadbourne and Mclvavett,
l' 0}0ü0lb8 each, and for Fort Mason, if main-
tained, 400,000lbs. Tho terms of delivery to
bo tho saino as for the Pork.
Offors must be addressed to the undersigned,
endorsed "special business," and thoy Will
bo reecived until the 31st day of July next.
They will then bo forwarded to tho Commis-
sary General of Subsistence for his considor-
tion, and such instructions as ho may deem fit.
The first dolivery of salt moat will not be
required before tho middle of March, 1857.

State of Texas, it devolves upon me, as
