Twenty-five thousand
hales uf cotton are expected
to come to this market the
coming season.
Allow us to again point to
San Augustine's magnificent
school with justifiable pride.
Few schools in Texas have a . , .

School Notes.
I was authorized by Pres. W .

of Education to announce that a
meeting of that beard will be
he d on the ¿1st inst. at this of-
fice for the purpose of classify-
ing the rural schools for the com*

other business which may come
before them.
All parties having any appeals
to make to the board are reques-

will be the only meeting for some
time. If the local trustees or

Prospects for Jg)jJ croos
were never better, and the
way the price of cotton con-
tinues to climb, leads us to
expect a wave of Junorece-
dented pr.spari y this fall.
San Augustine's mercaants
and business men are alive
to this- coming condition,
and are making due prepa-
rations to take care of the
biggest fall tradejj in the
town's history.
Hereafter, fcwe will not
say that we "feel like thirty
cents" but will merely say
that "we feel like six cents"
—out of respect for the ter-
rible Teddy, the drinker jof
milk, and the ^hater of
liquor and the probable
candidate for Preside it the
next time. And, by the
•ame token, we Democrats
who visit soda fountains will
not forget to call for "grape
juice"—out of respect for
the greatest living Demo-
crat on earth—since the
political demise of'Joseph.

Return Of Fishing Party.
A gay and festive fishing
party, composed of Messrs. Will
Sharp, Dr. Hicks, John Payne,
Frank Blount and T. B. Saun-
ders, have returned from a
week of sport. Mr. Saunders is
ressonsible for the statement
that they had to hide behind a
tree to bait their hooks, and
they all declare that they had
more fish .than they could de-
vour.
Among the incidents of the
trip was the dicovery of a wasp
nest by Dr. Hicks, which is
described as one of the most en-
joyable events of the occasion —
by the other fellows.

About
Mr. NobleJWeaver, represent-
ing the Pickering Lumber Com-
pany, was a visitor to San Aug-
ustine Thursday in the interest
of his Company. Mr. Weaver
when seen by a reporter, said
that the Pickering mill now be-
ing constructed «at Joaquin, is
being pushed to completion as
rapidly as possible, and that
several hundred men are engag-
ed on the job. It is Mr. Weav-
er's understanding that sixteen
miles is to be built at this time,
and that the road will eventual-
ly be built to a connection with
the Orange & Northwestern, to
the south and to the Marshall &
Eastern to the north.

Our Happy Homes. 7ZZZZZ,
We have s® many things to de-
press us and then life is just one
thing after another anyway,
that a short visit to the fountain
head of our happiness and pros-
perity where we can sit quietly
and watch the waters of life bub-
ble and flow, is refreshing, in-
structive and encouraging.
JJThe last Federal Census report
shows that we now have 779,-
177 homes with an average of a
little more than four persons
each. We gained in the past 10
years 203,443 homes. Wo build
an average of seven homes every
working hour in the day. Cupid
and the stork are master build-
ers and neither of them belong
to the union. Cupid performs
140 marriage ceremonies in Tex-
as per day and the stork brings
335 children to our homes. Then
the goddess of opportunity beats
them all bringing population and
wealth to the State. So long as
we can build 20,000 homes per
annum, Texas is safe and so long
as the prosperity triplets—cupid,
the stork and opportunity-smile
upon us, we will be happy.—Com.
