"Sliss Halloy," thought so ton, and wrote accor-
dingly, lamenting the awkwaid position she wan
iu, but adding, that she had Mentioned the
Matter to her brother who had reluctantly con-
sented Irt the illterview, and had promised to
be present at the interview, an her protector.
Sliu also iutiniated that a cousin of hers kept
the inn above named, and that she and her broth-

to nay tliot ho would be in Leeds by the train
arriving thcro at (1,!!0 p. in. on Tuesday, and
would at once drive to the hotel named in a cab.
All thin arranged, one of tl*t*party here, a
stockholder, undertook to play the guardian,
and a clerk from the office was (selected to per-
sonate the lady, Miss liailcy; no expense being
spared to tulorii the lady with suitable and la-

The young lady's brother introduced her as his

tho young lady's pale and pensive features, the
downcast eye's, commanding figure, and rich
flowing ringlets, would have been too much for
even a stouter heart than he could boast of, es-
pecially when it was made known that the pro-
prietor of this graceful form had Jtl,<)O0in her

Tho trio at once proceeded to business, the
brother putting a number of (mentions to Mr.
II., all of which were cheerfully ami uususpi

that ho was pretty well to do in the world he
added that he was a widower with three chil-
dren, but in order that they might'uot annoy

tune which he was happy to find she possessed,it

With those explanations Miss liailcy and her
brother were satisfied—in fact it was* settled

"Ill a late visit to 1'ottsville, I was much grat-

iron monument to the memory of Henry Clay,
which is now being reared on a beautiful and j
commanding eminence, near tho centre of the
borough.
I made some enquiry of the persons who have
charge of the matter, and learned that the de-
sign of the monument ns drawn by F. Ilewson
Ksip, and adopted by the committee, is as fol-
lows:
The statue is to bo a correct likeness of the
great statesman, and made of cast iron, fifteen
feet in height, and will stand upon a (irocian Do-
ric column, also of east iron, starting from a base
of conglomerate rock. The whole height of col-

being lilii feet above the side walk, on Centre

of the monument.

I also visited Monument Hill, and found the
stone cutters and masons busily engaged in lay-
ing the foundation, on which is tube reared this
noble structure, ami was informed that the cast
iron work for the column was being made at the
foundries in tho borough, and the statue was con-

Catherine Milehani, a widow lady of t'im iuna-

the insane asylum last week, in cimsnjttence of
becoming deranged through the spirit rapping
delusions. It appears that another female had
pretended to have communication with the other
world and thus put Mrs. M. in correspondence
with Iter deceased husband, in heaven. She be-
came intensely interested in the r.ipjiings, and
held, as she was led to suppose, frequent inter-
