From the lights before me and the stand point I
occupy, ('ol. Yrung'n greatest error ha« been in
relying too much upon theGovernor. Gov. Clark
ih doubtlesH a clever gentleman and a good civil-
ian, hut the calibre, ol hi- gun does not reach ar-

We are the invaded, and not the invaders, there-
tore, cannot control the programme of war. We
will doubtless have to station more troopH upon
the coast, more upon the western and Northwes-
tern borders. Tlier* are mauy reasons to believe
this. In fact it is now reported here upon author-
ity apparently reliable that notification has been
given to remove the non coiuhattarits from the
ci'y of Gulveston Great Heavens! How the
boys would lovt to heat back the foe lrom Texas
bod. From the°e (acts those controlling the or-
ganization and movements ot troops will ever be
subject to the criticism and abuse of the vultully
ignorant. It is a noted fact that those complain-
ing most are doing leust tor the cause to which
the Regiment is dedicated.
I learn that two more companies have been cal-
led for from Wed liiver. This will certainly drain
the county of men who can get tor the war. i
apprehend that when some ol the gray heads
have to fill up the muster roll of men to be fur-
nished from our county, regrets will be felt both
by those present and those absent that one hun-
dred of our best men and horses have struck their
Texas colors, and enlisted under those chat Hoat
over the militia of Tennessee. 1 know most of
the men who went under Capt. Gould ami they
are worthy representatives of any people. I am
proud since hey have left, that in resigning the
Texan name and character they have chosen to
unite themselves with that ofa people so ehivalric
and patriotic as those of Tennessee. Wherever
they go or wherever they be, our sincere prayer
is that the God o' Battles be with them. Texas
proudly donates tiiem to the service of the South,
though she may have to fill the bond by extra en
listment Capt. Sims' con pauy is doing well, all
well and in
pany.

residence of the bride's mother, by Rev. J. Dvsart,
Jai-ies W. Thomas. Editor of the McKinney
Messenger, and Miss 'Mary W. Smith, of this

IQrThe above notice accounts for the presence
in our town, of a wandering editor from the west,
who seemed to be carefully dressed, and looked in
very good humor with himself and the world.—
Doubtless the Messenger will be much improved
in tone now; and will overflow with articles redo-
lent with happiness, and laudatory of the benelits
ofa Union of the present, in place of the olb lau-
dations of the Union of the past.
