spelling abality, Dr. Fred C. Ayer.
University of Texas distinguished
professor of educational adminis-
trAtion, says.
Dr. Ayer discovered the decline
in his 1950 national survey, simi-
lar to 1915 and 1925 investiga-
tions. In 1915, for example, 100
percent sdf-the ninth grade pupils
tested spelled "trouble" right.. In
1925, 95 per cent spelled it cor-
rectly, and in 1950 only 91 per
cent could spell the word. :
