Another first for Lamar's 50th Year. Lamar University Jaycees are the first Jaycee chapter
extended on a college or university campus in the state of Texas, and the second in the nation.
The Charter Banquet was held May 24, 1974, with university president John Gray presenting
the school charter, and state director, Jim Wright presenting the Jaycee charter. The banquet
took place in the Setzer Student Center Ballroom.President
