that they be entitled to eight dollars
for each twenty-five milen traveled.
The Finance committee reported in
favor of the bill authorizing sheritt's
and collectors to receive one-half of
the tax In State warrants.
Pending the discussion the house
adjourned for ten minutes.
The house reassembled at 12 M.
The senate and house In Joint ses-
sion proceeded to the election of a
United States senator.
Tho roll of each house was called
and a quorum of each house answered
to their names.
The speaker announced that as no
election had been had on yesterday
tho joint session would now proceed to

Mr. Sayres said: On yesterday I
placed In nomination the name of

his name and return thanks to those
gentlemen who voted for him.
Mr. Ireland placed in nomination
Mr. 8. B. Maxey. !
Mr. Ball nominated J. W Throck-
morton. The vote resulted: Senate Maxey.
13; Throckmorton 9; Handle 2; Me-
Qary 1; Reagan 1. Total 20. House
Maxey 40; Throckmorton 31; Ban-
die 11. Total 88. Necessary to a
choice 58. Mr. Maxey receiving 59
votes was declared elected.
