Might as they meet to-morrow only to
adjourn. By a" majority of them ig
noring the known will of the pooplo in
several important matters and so act
ing as to insure their continuance In
office they have fallen short of the
duty of good and faithful servants.
They first refused to call a conven
tiou as the shortest cheapest and most
republican mode of socurlng to tho peo
ple a free and practicable constitution;
and now after a long session have
failed to agree upon a set of amend-
ments to tilt? present obnoxious instru-
ment'. The first refusal had its plausi-
ble temporary Reasons in defense but
the latter failure from the utandpoint
of those who defeated the convention
is wholly without upology. We say
from their standpoint because we
have reserved the right to opposo that
mode of accomplishing the desired
result. ; ".. ; ;
. They linve signally fulled when the
way ws clear to reduce the number of
district Judges and district nttorueys.
On the contrary a few professing to be
shining lights In the democratic lirma-

crease the nujuber and worse still to
Increase the sularlcs of all. Of such
democracy. we.eoiwtitute no p"rt.

From a'l the iuf.irinuiiou we can
gather from the western Male thee.nl-
gl'adon from that region to Texas neM
full nnd following will be ;.;iculel' than
ever heretofore 'iho great majority
arc coming in search of cheap lenile
lands and a climate less rigorou.-.
than llio cold and bleak regions of the
northwest where tho winters are so
long and the summers so Mh'jrt.
The people of tho northwest are as
anxious as thoso from MlssUsippi and
South Carolina to live iua white mini's
country. Though they fought fur the
preservation of thu union they have
uo Idea of being governed in any local-
ity by the emancipated African slaves
of the south. Blood will tell. To
perpetuate an utllauco between north-
era while men and tho black men of
the south as n&alnst the while puoplo
of the Houlh Is us contrary to Cod's
eternal law as for iheleopard to.chniigc
his spots. Thu splill of Thud.
Stevens a bold and iron hearted
fanatic cannot be transmitted to
the White children of even his
own township. It received cosmic
uanco during the latter years of his
life solely from the extraordinary and
abnormal sun oundhigs great sec-
tional excitement " fanned Into a
blazing fury by tho hwics of tho hour.
The sober second thought of national
reason and every day common cense
Will restore a healthy equilibrium in
sentiment. Tho day.thut slavery was
abolished in the south that very day
was planted the genu from' which ia to
sprlngand has already partially
sprung a clear and distinct idea of the
distinction in races of men.
Tho white woman of Massachusetts
however distorted may have been her
education lu sympathy with the imag
inary character of tho oppressed son of
Africa has tho same instinctive re-
pugnance to marrying him that ac
tuates the woman of old Virginia or
South Carolina. It is but a common
nature stamped in. the heart by the
power of God and picvuilti throughout
the ends of the earth.
Hence it is Unit tho people
in the cold regions of the north and
northwest who desire to migrate to a
more genial clime further south yet
desire to go to a country where white
men rule and the African at most is
but an incident. Much a country is
north Texas. It lias a generous soil n
mild clhuato a pure atmosphere and
produces In tho same Held cotton
wheat com rye oats barley potatoes
peaches apples pears cherries apri-
uols grapes and a variety of other
needful products. It produces all that
Ohio or Wisconsin can and all that
grows in a semi-tropical clime and
hence possesses advantaues denied to
either extreme In the tropics or at the
cold north. The combination indicates
a section in which may be built up the
finest average population the world
ever produced. Bight here on and
near latitude thirty-three is the region
sought for. Come on brethren whether
from Minnesota or California Penn-
sylvania or Florida. Wo have room
for all who come in good faith to bo of
our household. ;
Lieutenant Governor Talbot of Mas-
sachusetts was last heard from at
Georgetown Texas on April 11th. He
wrote then that ho would leave St.

state and lioj.e he may Voon learn of
the honor that lias befalh-n him. His
wainlerings throughout the vnstnesfes
