is very large. Hogs are looking well
and pork will be cheap. The county
is full of men hunting land to rent.
Muny of them have come down from
the frontier counties men who came
into Texas one and two years ago.
Any quantity of corn can be had at
twentyfivo cents per bushel wheat at
one dollar and oats twenty cents.
Pork will be worth jibout four cents a
pound. Very little fall wheat has or
will be sown but there will be a con-
siderable amount of spring wheat sown
in January the Boshel and Mediter
raneun mostly. The business of Sal-
ado bus been more lively this fall than
it has been for years. The sweet po-
tato crop is turning out finely.
Nearly all the cotton wagons return
from the railroad with more or less
lumber for houses and fences. This
year will put the most of our farmers
out of debt for their lands and from
now on will have the proceeds of their
crop to appropriate' the improvements
of their farms and the education of their
children. We have families in this
neighborhood that commenced. as rent-
ers with no means but their labor six
or seven years ago and are now the
. owners of good farms and comfortably
situated. The sheep business is be-
ginning to attract considerable attant
tion in this county where it was in a
flourishing condition before the war.
Many small flocks have been brought
into different neighborhoods and all
seem to be doing well. This branch of
business pays better than any otner
where .carefully and intelligently han-
dled. Gale the English pedestrian who has
latoly completed the task of walking
four thousund quarter-miles in four
thousand consecutive periods of ten
minutes each has obtained such ccm
pie te mastery over his physical powers
that he sleeps occasionally while walk-
ing. Medical evidenoe has been tafcen
on this point and the fact is beyond a
doubt.
This item has boon started: White-:
law Keid's connection with the New
York Tribune will cease with the cur
rent year. Of course somebody will
deny it ; then it will be reaffirmed and
Mr. Reid will be interviewed and a
worry will be kept up which will either
kill Mr. Reid or cause him to get
bounced. This reminds us that it is
stated that Mr. Reid's connection with
his paper will not cease with the cur
rent year.
