ALINE MOSBY'S HOLLYWOOD
Suzan Ball Determined
• To Pursue Film Career
(EDITOR'S NOTE—In the sec-
ond of two articles, actress Suzan
Ball tells how she will walk on her
artificial limb.)
By SUZAN BALL
As Told to Aline Mosbv
HOLLYWOOD, Feb. 5 — UP —
Wearing an artificial leg isn't much
different to mc than owning false
teeth.
^ So I have a false leg! This
doesn't mean the world has come
to an end. Society is just more
used to people with false teeth.
I think all returning war vet-
erans who are amputees should re-
member that.
I'm already walking on crutchcs
a few minutes every day. 1 also
exercise my letl good leg to build
it up. They can't make my arti-
ficial leg until they can match it to
my good leg, and that's too thin
j^'ight now for matching.
After I get the artificial leg, I'll
go to a school here to learn how
to use it. They told me I can walk
without limping after two weeks of
classes.
My walk will have the same
normal faults it had before. The
leg will look like flesh and it will
have joints at the ankle and knee.
I will be able to sit down and
stand up like anybody else. The
will be attached by a suction
cup, not by those old-fashioned
straps and harnesses.
I can go on acting. I will be
able to play golf, ride horseback
and dance. 1 will be able to swim.
In a bathing suit, of course, ihe
joining between the artificial leg
and what's left of mine will show.
If that bothers some people —
well, 1 can't be concerned with
that kind of person.
Many artists go on painting with

artificial arm?. Wiley Post flew
with one eye. I know of a fellow
who skiis with an artificial leg.
Herbert Marshall acts with a false
leg; so did Sarah Bernhardt.
Dick Long, my fiance, and I dis-
cuss buying the leg as if it's a
new pair of shoes. It's important
you talk about it. Dick and I call
the stump a stump. I've even
named it "throckmorton." Other-
wise, people will be afraid to men-
tion "legs" or "running" around
me.
If you put barricades and blocks
in your conversation against the
leg, you build mental problems for
yourself. Some persons talk about
taking out their false teeth and put-
ting them in a glass every night.
So I'll take off my leg and hang
it in the corner. No difference!
1 don't think people are afraid to
mention the leg around me. My
stump has a personality. Some-
times when I'm exerciting it 1 can't
get it down. The doctor laughs at
me. An artist friend drew a car-
toon of me looking like that. 1
think it's funny. I'm going to frame
it.
Christian Science
The wholly spiritual nature of
effective prayer which overcomes
sin, sickness, and sorrow, will be
set forth at Christian Science ser-
vices this Sunday.
Selections from the Authorized
King James Version of the Bible
and correlative passages from "Sci-
ence and Health with Key to the
Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy
comprise the Lesson-Sermon en-
titled "Spirit."
Scriptural texts include the fol-
lowing words of Christ Jesus from
John: "The hour cometh, and now
is, when the true worshippers shall
worship the Father in spirit and
in truth: for tiie Father seeketh
such lo worship him. God is a
Spirit: and they that worship him
must worship him in spirit and in
truth." 14:23 the, 24).
The folowing correlative citation
lrom Science ami Health by Mrs.
Eddy will also be read: "To enter
ininto the heart of prayer, the door
of the erring senses must be clos-
ed. Lips must be mute and mater-
ialism silent, that man may have
audience with Spirit, the divine
Principle, Love, which destroys all
error." (15:9).
This Society holds services of
1001 Crane St. Sunday School be-
gins at 9:45 a. m. and the morning
service at 11 o'clock. Wednesday
evening testimony meetings are
held at 8 o'clock. The public is cor-
dially invited. Members announce.
