that the hanks will be most likly tu take them.
The Sherman amendment differ from ihe sen-

Issue of silver cerilfieates as well as gold certifi-

Sherman who thought congress had belter let
the silver question severely alone for the pres-
"gome question! were asked Mr. Sherman In
the course of the debato which were meant to
bo troublesome and one of which certalmy did
not admit of a perfectly satislactory answer.
This one wai whether lilver certificates had

This however is not a matter of Vital Im-
portance.
The question was asked as the remark! of
Mr. Coke and Mr. Kunsom showed for the pur-
pose of making it appear from Mr. 'hemuin's
admission tliat Ihe people preferred sliver dol-
lars or their representatives to gold coin. Mr.
Kansoin sought lo make li appear that this was
the plain inference from Mr. Sherman's admls-
ikm that holders of gold hail voluntarily sur-
rriuWred It for cerUllcatos payable lu sil-
ver onlv. It docs not appear that Mr.
Sherman' had anything to say in answer
to this though he could hardly havo been af a
loss to explain this sceiulug preference for sil-

exehaiue for silver certificate money was
