t4S There his been a good deal of talk
within I lie past week or two. here about
the location of the Ilrpoi. gronnds for the
Central Railroad in Imllas. ' Kunior has
it that the ground has been purchased and
we hare heiH r.il J.vtit named but
have not received uehnilo inrnrmation of
the fncU One thing certain lols in a celt-
tain locality ennnot now bo bought for
wlint they could ervoral weeks nco. We
bop that this rumor may prove correct
nnd Ibnl we shall icon kne wn the exact lo-
cality of lh Popot grounds.
It. Is evident that n large majority
of the delegates from Northern Texas so'
far as heard from at least will be of the
radical stripe. In Lamar Fannin Collin
Ornyion Denton eie. we were prrparcd lo
hear thai th delegates elect were of the
while man's party but it appears Ihnt
much less than half of llio whiio vole wai
polled while tho black who were thorough
ly dri led snd instructed hare in many in
stance! polled nearly their en lire ilrength.
In Lamar it is probable I lint Armstrong
(Radical) ii elected ; in Red River Flem-
ing (Kndicnl) ii elected and Gray floater
from Red River nnd Titus. Judge Wright
(Conservative) il probably cltoted from
lb floating district of Lamnr and Runt
In Collin Jas. W. Thomas (Radical) ii
elected. In all theaa cnuntiei the vole
in favor of th Convention run ahead of
Ihe vols for lh radical candidates snd in
very on of I hem tho negro vote was
palled en matte for llie Convention and the
adical candidates ss was also tot case In

At present the facilities snd advantages
of education are about equal to tboso of ihe
generality of communities in ths South;
though at this point Ihero is contemplated
and efforts are being mads to secure the
erection of a male and female University.
Lands can be purchased from a dollar to
twenty dollar! per acre price depending
upon locality snd improvements. We sin-
cerely regret to say that the great obstacle
to the rapid development of this country is
Ihe want of railroad oommtintcstion for
with all ill natural advantages of olimatc
and soil and political one of the compara-
tive absenceof nrjro cititem it must attract
to it not only the speculative capital of the
North and South bu an immense industri-
ous population from nil the Southern Stutes
who are desirous of living among whiles
and beyond the pale of the influence of
r-!canliation. .- --
Agaiuf the pecuniary condition is Infin
itcly enperior to that of most sections of
the South. No bankrupt or pauper popit

freely nnd is in sufficient quantity to meet
all commercial necessities. In the future
we may give special or statistical informa

We are going to say something about the
mails I not the malet as contradistinguish
ed from the malet but the marts which
Uncle Sam proposed lo carry for the dear
people with tafety and elcrity. We notic-
ed last wick th reception of papers and
letters from Eastern Texai' of dates rang-
ing from Sept. 20th 18G7 to Feb. lit 1808
and mention the fact again this week is a
sample of lb tnjety and celerity with which
the mails are carried in this part of the
Union. Wt hivo never known such mis
erable facilities for the transmission of pa
per! and letters ss prevails at thi present
time. Even-in ante belln.n times when we
used lo growl a good deal about them the
mails were carried with comparative reg-
ularity by all the aids or horse routes cen-
tering in this place except when retarded
by high water or muddy roads. We used
to grumble then that the counties did'nt
build bridges to ss to enabls th mails lo
cross. Then lb conirtcion wers men
who bad som little respect for their eon-
tracts and would live up to them when
they were pot bound by high water. But
now. in the belt ef weither some of our
tide route! will not make a trip for weeks
and weekt together and wt never hear of
on of them being fined! If th govern
ment bad any desire to serve ths people
snd give them value received for the pos-
ts ga they pay it would do away with ihe
teat-oath that all contractor! must lake and
then it would lad men willing to take the
eontraete and carry then out in good faith.
There are aevtret rente which are 00a-
11 acted for by a diatinguishad candidate
for the Conveatia living ia Eastern Texaa
aad ea the route tktr baa been more
failures w believe tbaa oa any other.
We call again loudly for Hobbe r airjr tk

We ought to have fully a thousand miles
built by this time 1870. Can it be done?
I think so. You ask bow? First by every
man making an cflori 10 induce emigration
into the State. This will make a greater
necessity for railroads and that will hasten
tba time to build them Second by taking
hold of those new enterprises with a will
whioh now languish for popular support.
tne ucnirai road is old enough and strong
enough to go alone aud it will go alone
last euoiigu 11 let alone. Its earnings now
amount to fully $2000 a dny and vast
erowds of laborers are at work on the suc
ceeding section. But tlo Eastern Texas
and Ihe W.--rn To'V.i s all need help;
-.a ine uncial branches or The Central
must be put under construction. The nco-
pie of McLennan and Bosque will not more
than have time to grade and iron their
road before the Central will reach their
neighborhood.
You know Swindells I sometimes see
visions. I seo one at this moment. 1 see
nt the great Central Depot that is to be in
Houston long trams of passcngcrcars run-
ning off in four directions. One takes the
tide of travel from the Atlnntio coast to tho
Pacific over the broad prairies of Texas
snd along the base of the Mexican moun-
tnins to G 11 ay m 11s. Another takes the re-
turning flood to New Orleans and New-York
on the fastest sehertnle. Another flies off
towards Kansas and the great Missouri val-
ley picking up and dropping the myriads
nf passers through the rioh wheat fields of
Texas. Still another pushes off for the great
river junction at Cairo scattering its liv-
ing freight in all that rioh country between
the Ohio on the ono hind and the Missouri
on the other. But passengers are not all.
Wheat wonderful trains of wheat five
hundered tons st a train! What oattle
trains hence to New Orleans to Cairo to
Kansas a hundred cars in cnoh train bear-
ing the chenp beef of Texas to ths never
to be con-'pletely supplied markets of the
Norlhl
Why describe Ihe vision? It is not so
far oil but that any observing man can look
at it for himself can fill up the picture of
a fertile country sustaining a heavy popu-
lation and produoing something liks tht
wealth it has the capacity for. Also ths
weather for
My circle is nearly complete. I began
with thi weather. Let me tay a word more.
With bul one very cold snap thia winter
and a prospect of an early Spring and a
dryer Summer thin last year I beg to ob-
serve that every man should now plsnt all
the ground be can get plowed and a few
extra days' work in plowing time will be
;;urned largely in tie harvest.
