Itarffe publish this week full aooourt
of llio proceedings of the Moliluney Con-

wo note thai our filcnds ci the Jeuerson

to grumble a little. Well this wilt " "
harm si they are both reasonable papfc.r'i
and of course will support the nom luee in
good faith. They did no t get their respec

Fieb.' On Thursday afternoon our
Church bells gavo the alarm of fire. It was
soon discovered to be the new residence of
Mrs. W. C. C. Akard la the eoulheastorn
portion of the oity whioh was about ready
for habitation but nobody living in it. a
far as we can learn llio new Fire Extin
guishers were of no use and (no uuiiuing
a wooden structure was soon uurucu m
the ground. How the fire originated Is not
known. Some say that a man had been
lying down among tho shavings smoking.
It was the result of carelessness no doubt.
There was no wind or other buildings
might have caught. Too great care can-
not be exercised. Again we call ftf? the
establishment of a hook and ladder ocmpa-
nv as the first necessity. Then for the
digging of cistorns for reservoirs of water.
Then for a regular old tasuioncu jingmc.
As wo have stated the building wavuuoccu-
pied. It was built by .Mrs. Akard for a
residence for lursolf and would ha70 been
completed in a few days. It was a hand
somely finished two slory frame house and
bad cost we loarn in the neighborhood of
3000. There wos no insurance. .Wo are
vciiuesled to return the thanks of the own:
erofihe building to the gentlemen who
were present for their faithful though vain
efforts to stay tho progress ol Hie nre.
