sincularly small cost. He insiats that by an
expense of not exceeding $2500 the com-
merce of England can be damaged to the ex-

over $100000 in their treasury which is

Whether these "patriots" as they designate
themselves can be h uiod to use these in
fernal machines for tbe blowing up of all

rushing athwart the briny deep remains to
be seen. This association of men is com-

The announcement of the reunion at Dal'
las Texas on the tenth and eleventh instant
of the soldiers of Louisiana Texas Arkan-
sas and Missouri who participated in tho late
war on the side of the south will be received
with pleasure by all thoie who are interested
and is a gratifying evidence that the bonds
of sympathy and affection created by com-
mon suffering and common heroic endeavors
have not been severed during sixteen years
of peace. The soldiers of tbo several states
named will meet not to glorify the cause for
which they and their dead brothers fought
not to indulge in lamentations over a lost
confederacy nor yet to revive mem-
ories that are buried forever under tbe
. dust of nearly two dicades; they will meet
as men who honor the memory of their dead
who fell fighting with all tbo knightly .valor
of paladins of old for a cause to which they
were loyal to their heart's core.and for which
they esteemed it a glorious privilege to die.
Tbey will meet to recount deeds that have
rendered men's names immortal and to per-
fect some scheme of benevolence which will
enable the organization to see that the
maimed and the widows and orpbars-of
dead comrades be cared for. Some such
organization has lopg been needed and
we sincerely hope that out of tbe reunion
at Dallas will spring an association of
that character. Now that prosperity is once
more smiling upon the south and most of
those who fought in her armies bave man-
aged to- accumulate a competence while
many have grown rich it is full time that
more attention ia being paid to those widows
and orphans of xfead confederates upon
