STIRPES (prounced Stir-pes) is the plural of the Latin
word stirps, meaning roots. TEXAS evolved from the
Indian word Tejas, for friends. We're known as the
Friendship State as well as the Lone Star State
because of our flag with a single star, which was
also the flag of the Republic of Texas.
