the flock to reconsider but adhered
to hia original intention of resigning
and asked for the special meeting
last night at which to tender his res-
ignation. The report that Dr. Jacobson's
resignation was caused by friction
with members of the congregation
was denied. Prominent members of
the temple and many of his warm
personal friends denied the report
that his resibnation was due to ill
Resignation Personal.
It was the concensus of opinion
among thase close to Dr. Jacobson
that .the resignation was caused
from a personal desire on the part of
the rabbi to rest for a time and get
surcease from his ministerial labors
which have lately been very ardu-
ous. Expressions of regret were heard
on every hand Friday morning and
Dr. Jacobson was urged again to re-
consider his action but he stated
that he would not. He was voted a
year's salary as a token of the es-
teem in which he was held by the
congregation and resolutions of re-
gret are being prepared. The ladies
of the congregation are also prepar-
inb to hold a public reception in
honor of their leader counsellor and
friend.
It was conceded on all sides that
there were few rabbis In the
United States have had greater suc-
cess with their work than Dr. Jacob-
son has attained in Shreveport and
his resignation came as a blow to
his friends and members of B'Nai
Zion.
Numerous frienls outside Jowisli
circles also expressed their appre-
ciation of the efforts of Dr. Jacob-
ton and keenly regretted the nten
which he felt should be taken.
