MONITOR
WILL ASK $10000000 FOR ALES-
TINE. Zionist Organization of America
Launching Campaign for Huge
Fund to Prepare Palestine
for the Great Masses of
Jews Eager to Flee
There from
Pogroms.
Ten million dollars is the minimum
for the purchase of large tracts of
America will endeavor to raise in this
country beginning January. 18th by
an appeal to Jews and non-Jews alike
for the purchase of lareg tracts of
land in aleftine and the preparation
of the country in every way for the
masses of Jews who according to au-
thoritative reports and eager to mi
grate 'thither from ; Russia Poland
Galilia Roumania . and other pogrom-ridden
countries ' of. Eastern
Etfrone. The mass desire on the part
of "the .Jews to escape to Palestine
from .lands of persecution everywhere
before that country is prepared to re-
ceive them is so intern as to make
the task of restraining the impending
immigration a most difficult problem
for the Zionist Organization.
In a statement issued yesterday the
Executive Committee of the Zionist
Organization of America announced
that is has every reason for confidence
that Great Britain will assume the
mandate over Palestine for the spe-
cific purpose of establishing there a
national homeland for the Jewish
people. This purpose was announced
by Great Britain on November 2nd
1917 in what is known as the "Bal-
four Declaration" and was reiterated
on November 2nd of this year by
Lord Curzon the present British For-
eign Secretary who stated. that the
policy of Great Britain toward Pales-
tine as announced two years ago by
the Right Honorable Arthur J. Bal-
four remains unchanged. The Zionist
Organization of America feels in
view of Lord Curzon's statement and
the fact that the treaty with Turkey
is to be taken up by the Allies at an
er.rly date that the time has arrived
for beginning a program of construc-
tion and reconstruction in Palestine.
This program includes not only the
acquirement of large tracts of land
but also water conservation and the
development of water power; sanita-
tion and drainage in cities and towns;
irrigation afforestation survey and
development of natural resources and
the establishment of technical labora-
tories for agricultural purposes.
Large sums will also be needed for
. Friday December 26 1919.

the maintenance and development of
work already launched in Palestine by
the Zionists. These include a school
system ranging from kindergartens to
a University loans to agricultural and
industrial organizations and! groups
rehabilitation of Jewish colonies de-
vastated during the war; maintenance
of the American Zionist Medical Unit
its three hospitals and two nurses'
training schools an anti-malaria cam
paign and improvement in the hous-
ing conditions of Jerusalem Jaffa and
other cities. Other items to be met by
this fund include the care of Jewish
legionnaires and their dependants;
supplies for hospitals and institutions'
in Palestine and a Palestine informa-
tion bureau as well aa the mainten-
ance and administration of the Zion-
ist Organization through which these
enormous tasks are to be carried out
' All of the rerjiurces of the Zionist '
districts in the United States will be
utilized for the purposes of this cam-
paign which will be conducted by a
national committee headed by Judge
Julian W. Mack. " '
IN LOVE SEE THE RED CROSS.
It was suggested that the Red
Cross organize an "Aid for Lovers"
Bureau.
At present the patronage would be
heavy. At Fort Sam Houston Hospi-
tal San Antonio Texas a doughboy
lost his voice temporarily after an
operation. Deep gloom set in. How was .
he to make a date with his girl? He
appealed to the Red Cross.
Now every Friday night a Red
Cross worker telephones the young
woman and arranges "a date."
