THE JEWISH MONITOR
Three
Vth
tured the hearts and affections of the
men almost instantly by his natural
intelligence and cheerfulness.
When the British withdrew the sol-
diers from Rayak Reuben had to look
for a new home and he found it in
one of the orphanages established by
the Near East Relief 1 Madison Ave-
nue New York City. Thii organization
is caring for thousands of homeless
orphans most of whom have witnessed
the torture of death of their parents
at the hands of the Turks.
Not only is Near East Relief look-
ing after the welfare of the children
but further it is caring for thousands
of young women who have been res-
cued from Turkish harems where they
were imprisoned after the men of
their families had been deported and
is furnishing food clothing an medi-
cal treatment to thousands of homeless
refugees who would perish from hun-
ger exposure and disease if aid were
not given them.
According to reports from allied
commissioners in the Near East 800-
000 perrons will die of starvation un-
less aid is given them until the next
harvest and 120000 more orphan chil-
wandering around over the
ountry without food and clothing.
The only hope of these people is to
3DDiain renei irom the generosity of
the people of the United States a na
tion which represents all that is great
oble and generous to suffering people
roughout the world.
. NORDAU APPROVES POLITICAL
j OPERATIONS.
) Writes That Weitzmann and His As-
social Deserve Eternal Gratitude
of Jewkh People for British Pal-
estine Mandate Project
V) Dr. Max Nordau 1l in henrtv acrnnt
jvith the political operations of Dr.
-"yVeitwnann and his associates with
ffcference to the British mandate over
-a Palestine for the purpose of efftab-
lishing there a Jewish National Home-
land. At the same time he takes a
fling at those who have been criticiz-
ing the Zionist proposals. He is now in
London engaged in conferences with
the Zionist political committee with
) reference to the international confer-
ence to be held at Basle next month.
In a letter written from San Sebaiy-
tiart Spain to Zionist political com-
mittee dated November 3rd Dr. Nor-
dan acknowledges receipt of a num-
ber of documents including the pro-
ject of the British mandate with the
modification proposed by the Zionist
organization and says:
"The document proves that the
Zionist Organization and Dr. Weitt-
mann in particular are eminent states-
men and excellent Jews and also that
they deserve the eternal gratitude of
the Jewish people in spite of the fact
that there are small imperfections that
are more easily criticized now that
. the work is done than it was to see
in advance what should be avoided
when the action was taken."
USE INK FOR BURNS.
The remedies) which Montenegrin
peasants rely on to cure all ilia have
amazed American Red Cross physi-
cians who recently visited the country.
When a Montenegrin is wounded his
first thought is to apply chewing to-
bacco horsehair or a fresh rabbit skin
sair side down. Common ink is consid-
ered a ipverelgn remedy for burns and
when anyone is bitten by a dog the
common method of treatment is to
capture the animal pull off his ear
and rub the wound with it
